Troubleshoot Chromecast and Google TV Streamer connection

Here are some things you might experience if your Chromecast and Google TV Streamer (4K) has a weak connection to either Wi-Fi or Bluetooth:

  • The light on your Google streaming device is blinking.
  • Your streaming device isn't discoverable in the Google Home app .
  • The Google Home app says your streaming device is offline.
  • The TV says your streaming device is offline.

To improve your streaming device connection and performance, try these steps:

Make sure your mobile device and Google streaming device are on the same Wi-Fi network.

  1. Check your streaming device’s Wi-Fi network.
    1. Google TV Streamer: At the top right of your Google TV screen, click All settings and then Network & Internet.
    2. Chromecast with Google TV (HD) or Chromecast with Google TV (4K): At the top right of your TV screen, select your account icon and then All settings and then Network & Internet.
    3. Other Chromecast: On your mobile device, open the Home app and then touch and hold your Chromecast’s tile and then Settings and then Device information and then Wi-Fi.
  • You can usually check the Wi-Fi network of your mobile device in its Settings app.
  1. If your router supports both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz, make sure your streaming device is on the 5 GHz network.
  2. Update your router's firmware, if needed. Sometimes routers have bugs, and there are firmware fixes to address them. Make sure your router is running the most updated software.
  3. Restart your streaming device. Unplug the power cable and then wait 3 seconds and then plug the power cable back in.
  4. Restart your modem or router. Check the manufacturer for instructions.
  5. To help prevent Wi-Fi or Bluetooth interference, move your streaming device further away from your TV. Also, don't let it touch other devices, wires, or cables.
  6. Use an Ethernet adapter to connect your streaming device to your router. This will give you a direct, hardwire connection to the internet and alleviate your home Wi-Fi network.
  7. Check that your wireless network can support the number of devices connected to it.
  8. Move your router to within 20 feet of your streaming device.
  9. Factory reset your streaming device.
