- [Narrator] There's an old saying, "Nothing lasts forever." This adage is especially true in technology. The pace of change in the IT industry as a whole is relentless. This is one of the many reasons enterprise architecture is so important to the enterprise it serves. Keeping up with that pace is a full-time job. Software manufacturers manage product lines. Small companies have one or a handful of products. Others have hundreds of commercial products. The one practice they all have in common is software versions. Versions allow software makers to differentiate their products as they add new features and release fixes. They also allow consumers to reason about features and compatibility. Licensing and pricing is typically associated with major versions and minor version updates are usually included with a license. Software makers also use versions to communicate their support commitments to their customers.…
