Create a calculated field on a shelf

- [Instructor] One surprising capability of Tableau is that you can create a custom field by adding a formula to one of the shelves in the program. In this movie, I will show you how to build a formula and a field at the same time. My sample file's 04_03_OnShelf, and you can find it in the Chapter04 folder of the exercise files collection. So what do I mean in Tableau when I talk about a shelf? Well, you have the column shelf, which currently has product category, and you can see it's here as the column header. And then we also have the order date field on the rows shelf. And it's currently broken down by year and by quarter. So if I wanted to create a field and add it to either columns or rows, I could double click on those shelves and start creating. You can also add a field by going to the marks card.
