- [Instructor] An adjustment layer is a special layer that floats above other layers in an image and applies changes to the layers below. There's a huge benefit to editing a photo with adjustment layers, which is that adjustment layers don't directly change your photo. This protects your photo and it gives you the flexibility to change your adjustments as often as you want to. This movie is an introduction to how adjustment layers work. We're going to use this photo that could use some lighting adjustments, but everything that you learn here applies to all the various kinds of adjustment layers and fill layers too. I'll open this list of adjustment layers and fill layers just so that you can get a sense of how many different ones there are. In this section, there are adjustment layers that affect lighting.
