The Importance of live data
- [Instructor] In this chapter, we're going to look at extending Illustrator charts, taking them from beyond just the purely functional to hopefully the attractive and maybe even elegant, as well. And it's really important to keep the data live for as long as possible and ideally for the entire lifetime of the chart. You will find lots of tutorials on places like YouTube that tell you how to achieve certain results and 9 times out of 10, they incorrectly mostly state that you need to break the graph apart by ungrouping it. Now, when you actually do that, Illustrator does warn you that you won't be able to access its graph style, its data, or change its graph design from there. So that's it, it's done. If you make a mistake or something needs to change, then you can't do it without going straight the way back to the beginning and re-putting in the data and all of that stuff. I'm going to cancel that. So that's why we should keep it that way. And most of the time, we can achieve elegant results without losing that connection. So if something's been entered incorrectly or if there is a change to the data, you'll be able to respond to it with ease and save yourself time and frustration as a result. So let's keep it live, people. Keep it live.
