A VOYA "Best Books for Young Adults"

For Rand al'Thor and his pals, life in the sleepy village of Emond's Field has been pretty dull. Until the appearance on festival night of Moiraine, a mysterious woman who claims to be an Aes Sdeai—a magician who can wield the One Power. Soon after, the village is attacked by Trollocs—a savage tribe of half-men half-beasts. Rand's father is nearly killed. But for Rand, the news gets worse. It was not the village the Trollocs were after, Moiraine tells him. It was you, Rand.

Rand and his friends are forced to flee. But his escape will bring him face to face with the Dark One...the most powerful force of evil in the universe.

Don't get me wrong, this is a very enjoyable albeit incomplete read - being the first half of "The Eye of the World". If the second half ("To the Blight") were available in ebook, I would heartily recommend this one. Sadly, the only way to read that second half is to purchase "The Eye of the World", which includes everything in this ebook (except for one extra prologue). So if you buy this ebook, you have to re-buy it's contents in order to finish reading the story. If Macmillan isn't going to make "To the Blight" available, they really should either just give this away as a teaser for "The Eye of the World", or pull it completely.

I thought this was a prequel when I bought it because it was a different name, turns out it's only the first book divided in to two parts! Shame on me for not reading the full description and shame on the publisher for splitting the book into two parts to double up on the profits.

This is part 1 (of 2) of the first book in the Wheel of Time Series, The Eye of the World. The entire first book is something like 700 pages, so they broke it down into small chunks (they did the same with the second book and supposedly were going to give the rest of the series the same treatment). They did add a new prologue to this book that was not in the original, but that is the extent of the changes. The author is VERY descriptive and because of this the story can be a little slow feeling, but if you can stick it out you will not be disappointed. I love the entire series and have read it ~4 times now. If you like fantasy you can't go wrong with The Wheel of Time.
