Impact Evaluation

At national level, INRS is the reference body for occupational risk prevention matters. It is therefore important for us to ensure that our actions targeted at companies and employees are relevant and meaningful and that INRS effectively contributes to the prevention of occupational accidents and diseases.

A global approach

Over the last few years, INRS has established a certain number of indicators to assess our studies and research, assistance and training actions. However, these indicators are not sufficient for globally assessing the impact of the Institute's actions since accident statistics are not the only objective elements. This is why the institute undertakes a global approach for assessing our contribution to the prevention of occupational risks.

The approach is based on a solid and common methodology, which guarantees its effectiveness. It will enable us to better understand the effects of our actions on all stakeholders in order to give more meaning to our actions.

In France and abroad, many organisations use or have used this type of approach. The effectiveness of prevention measures is an increasingly important issue for all prevention organisations. Therefore, INRS has decided to look into this subject with its foreign counterparts (IRSST-Québec, NIOSH-USA, DGUV-Germany, AUVA-Austria) within the International Social Security Association (ISSA) Research Committee which it chairs.

This project is aimed at writing a standard text to evaluate how OSH research organisations contribute to prevention in order to set good practices. The booklet, intended for decision-makers, will explain how the impact evaluation should be carried out and will contain examples of success stories.
