I blocked a caller and they could still call me, what can I do?

I blocked a caller for all calls- email and messages and my i ph rang it was them using same method to contact me and did not go to trash. I wonder how to stop this? I would like to see when I have to block that they will not be able to get though even to trash-a total block

It's not entirely clear what you did. Blocking a caller and blocking email are done in different ways.

To block a Caller:

From the Phone app, tap Recents, then tap the Info button next to the phone number or contact that you want to block. Scroll down, then tap Block this Caller.

To block an email:

From the Mail app, open the email that has the contact that you want to block, then tap the contact at the top. Tap Block this Contact.

If you only blocked the email, for a person, it won't block their calls.

Only Apple would know the answer to that question; to the best of my knowledge, they have never said. You can let them know your thoughts here:

When I blocked a caller-Apple authinticated what I did and it said that I will not receive any calls or email or messages from this person and that all will go to trash and I won’t hear this person trying to contact me. I have 17.0.3 upgrade and maybe that’s why when I block anywhere all types of communication from that person is blocked? That’s what Apple says anyway. But the big thing for me is they can get in through trash or when calling ph no they go to voice mail whatever I wish the system would work differently by an absolute block. Anyway what happened should not have.

Sorry not being more clear but I did all the ‘Apple’ steps for a block on all-mail-messages-phone calls. On the mail in settings I did not activate the-blocked sender options to choose move to trash. I believe that’s why I heard and saw the email. Thank you for responding. I would rather see when one blocks someone it would be a total block. Instead I have to see it in trash or voicemail later when I check these out. I would like to know why this is not given as an option?
