music just starts playing automatically on my iPhone

After I tried every method, the only way that works: delete Apple Music, cancel the subscription and switch to Spotify.

it’s obvious Apple did this auto-play trick on purpose, in an ugly way.

I followed the instruction to turn off the repeat, but it only sets at repeat every and repeat song. When I manage to get it greyed out it turns right back on again 🤦🏻‍♀️

so annoying. And no way to set Spotify or other service as default. Oh apple, how you betray us in your own interest

So why does this happen with headphones. I will be listening to an audiobook, have to pause it for a bit and then click my airpods to resume the audiobook but apple music starts up instead? Very frustrating.

I tried this and it failed the first time I got in my car. Music came up on its own right away.

Doesn’t fix this specific problem. Everytime I start my Bluetooth earbud then iOS starts AppleMusic. Real PITA. Never gets fixed.

I don’t want to delete my iTunes too. I bought a lot of music from iTunes

I finally figured it out guys. Go by the instructions just given. THEN TURN YOUR PHONE AND BACK ON… that finalized the deal for me.

Ended up deleting the music app. Was happening even when scrolling facebook.

ok had no infinity icon as well - looks like I solved it by setting a 1 min time limit on the music app- so after i play a song for 1 min - it will no longer pop on when headphones are attached or after apps finished like meditation or sleep apps - try setting a time limit !

I think it was just a misunderstanding of my post. There was no negative tone that was intended as we are all users helping others. While this thread has gone many different directions, the fact that music autoplays when connected to a vehicle with Bluetooth has happened ever since Bluetooth audio became available in the car. This is true of any device. If the vehicle does not have a way to play/pause bluetooth audio, then the device must play it to be hands-free, otherwise you would need to play/pause music on your device which does not make it hands-free. It all depends on the vehicle and with most you can change the input to be AM/FM instead of bluetooth audio and it is not a problem.

Okay—this worked for me, but not unfortunately, until I had deleted the Music app (which didn’t fix the problem anyway).

This problem was connected to my AirPods. I had connected them to my iPad a couple days ago instead of my iPhone phone (which I usually use with my AirPods). It wasn’t until I took the AirPods out of my ears, that I realized that the music was coming through my iPad, not my phone. It was an easy fix to turn the music off on my iPad.

Problem solved. Hope this helps somebody.

It is so frustrating for me too whenever I start my car, music from ITunes play automatically and I want to play my Spotify playlists. Much worse is when you move tab from your option on car screen, let say AM, FM, iPod, Bluetooth , it would default back to to the iTunes music. I cancelled my iTunes subscription already coz Spotify has a much broader selections. Apple please give an option to have our music defaults.

Ever since this new update, it’s more frequenting in auto play for iTunes music in cars. I believed they intentionally did it for customers to subscribe back to iTunes. I hope with many competitive music apps, ITunes gets obsolete.

You’d think apple would finally do something about this! It’s been the same on all iPhones and it’s horrible.

I disabled “hand off” and it’ll still automatically play in my car.

it’s one of the most irritating IPhone features. Instead of adding 50 minor fixes each month, they should focus on the items pepper hate about the phone.
