Poor car condition and poor service followed by poor compensation
I rented a car from 4/8/2025 to 30/8/2025. When I wanted to pick up the car, it took more than an hour to be serviced, not because they didn't have staff enough, but because the staff were too busy having fun with each other. When I finally got the car, they had given me a Kia Sportage PHEV, which I was happy about since the petrol in Denmark is very expensive (>AU$ 3.00/liter) until I discovered that they hadn't provided a charging cable and I couldn't get one. The car itself was very dirty both inside and out. When I returned the car, it took more than 15 minutes for the service agent to establish that I hadn't caused any damage to the car and then he "accused" me of having driven too much in the car. This came about because the contract stated that the car had only done 690 km when I picked it up (even if it had done more than 101,000 km) and now the clock showed 103,000 km. I had to explain this to the service agent and also point out that I had free km according to my contract - who would apart from that be able to drive more than 100,000 km in less than 4 weeks. Well, the service agent finally let me go, so that I could catch my flight home to Australia.
Afterwards, I filed a complaint to Avis, and a few days later I received this reply:
"Dear Paw,
Thank you for taking the time to tell us about your Customer Service experience. We appreciate your feedback since it helps us improve our service and your rental experience.
I'm sorry to hear there was a long waiting time at pick up. Waiting time is to be expected when you travel during the peak season of Summer, such as with hotels and flights, but I do agree that one hour wating time is long, and I apologise. For the inconvenience I would like to offer you a 230 Euro discount voucher: (attached voucher)
For the inconvenience of the car, I would also like to offer you a free upgrade voucher: (attached voucher)
When I checked the vouchers, it was NOT a 230 Euro voucher, but a 20 Euro voucher.
Questioning this, the Manager claimed that it was a typo, and she wasn't willing to stand by her initial promise!
What a poor experience! Never Avis again!
They're pirates
They're pirates! I rented a car from Avis at Copenhagen Airport, and they haven't returned my €300 deposit for alleged damage to the car, even though it wasn't defective. I should opt for a more reputable company.
I booked a car with Avis for 1–4 August…
I booked a car with Avis for 1–4 August 2025. The original price was DKK 2,662.14.
Within 48 hours I modified the booking online, removing extras, and the new price was DKK 2,036.10.
Despite Avis’ own policy stating “Free cancellation/full refunds on Pay Online bookings up to 48 hours before rental begins”, I was refused the refund of DKK 626.04.
This condition is not shown during booking or modification, only hidden in a 28-page PDF buried deep on their website.
I find this misleading and contrary to EU consumer rights and Danish marketing rules. I am still waiting for a refund and will escalate to the Danish Consumer Council if not resolved.
Very disappointing experience — I expected better transparency and customer care from an international company like Avis.
So disappointed
Having always had great service and excellent cars (mainly from Avis at Aarhus airport), this time I was given a really old car without warning, apology or the option to choose a car from a different band in Billund. It had nearly 90,000 km on the clock and boy did it feel it. I drove 140km to my summer house and was immediately prompted to change the batteries in the key! The lever for the fuel cap was impossible to find and should have had a sticker or something on it to help. To add insult to injury, they’re now chasing me for supposedly having damaged this old piece of …. I feel everything was done to make sure I had the worst possible experience this time.
We waited 2 hours because they couldn’t…
We waited 2 hours because they couldn’t find our car and it needed to be cleaned, excuse after excuse. Queue is taking hours even if there only is 10 persons in line. Worst renting service I’ve tried.
SCAM! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.
SCAM! STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS.
We rented a car at LAX. I made sure to get written proof that no extra fees would be added once picking up the car, because i read a few things online. After written proof i felt i was safe.. But i was wrong. After a 11 hour flight, 40 minutes of waiting for a completely filled shuttle and 23 hours of no sleep, I get to the pickup point, and the Avis employees tries to force me to almost pay double the price. I refuse, but she keeps insisting that either i'm gonna leave without a car, or i'm gonna pay double. Since i'm now stranded in the middle of nowhere 23 hours no sleep, i don't see it as an option to go wait another 40 minutes for a filled up shuttle to try and go find another rental company last minute, so i'm feeling forced to accept her scam. She also lies to me and says only 160 USD will get added, the rest i will get back when i return the car. Whatever she could say to get me to sign the agreement. Guess i'm kind of not surprised that this was also a lie and a total of 300 USD was charged extra. The rental price before hand was agreed to as as only 350 USD.
To make matters even worse: the car that i got smelled a bit like cigarettes. I didn't notice a lot in the beginning (smelled a lot like perfume), but especially after being parked in the sun the smell started coming. And after a few days i found a half smoked cigarette in the car door. SUPER DISGUSTING.
At all costs stay away from this scam company. Scaming and lying seems to be a part of their business model. What a shame.
We rented a car from Avis as I was…
We rented a car from Avis as I was going up to Denmark where my grandad had just died. And the manager at the front desk. We had booked over avis.com instead of avis.dk so the coverage we have wasn't vaild. The manager informed us we should know have known this as it is known in the business. when we said we weren't in the business or renting and leasing cars, and told him to give us the car he said no and promptly canceled our reservation as he was unhappy with our attitude and refused to rent us a car. After wich they were unwillingly to give us a confirmation of the cancelation and they were unwillingly to provide us with a name so we would be unable to place a bad review.
Stay away
Stay away - last time I came there to pick up a car at Billund airport - the key box didn't work - and there was nobody there to help. The information in the SMS, Mails and App was outdated too, so just a big mess of wrong information.
I have been President Club for several years - but I'm not going to use Avis anymore - they have not responded to my mail at customer service either.
Beware of Refund Issues at Avis Copenhagen Airport
We had a very disappointing experience with Avis at Copenhagen Airport. When we returned the car, the counter staff assured us that both the deposit and the remaining amount would be refunded once we returned home. However, despite waiting for months and sending multiple emails, we have yet to receive our refund. Their customer service has been unhelpful and unresponsive, failing to resolve the issue.
Having rented cars in many countries without issues, this was frustrating and unprofessional. We expected better from a global company and caution others about this location.
Awful Experience with AVIS Car Rental in Kolding, Denmark
I recently rented a car from AVIS, and the entire experience was frustrating from start to finish. I booked a small car online, but when I arrived at their Kolding branch, they made me sign the contract before telling me they didn't have the car I booked. Instead, they tried to give me a bigger car, which I did not want or need. The whole point of booking a small car was because that’s what I needed at the time!
Their customer service was shockingly poor. After some back-and-forth, they claimed they could get a small car from another customer who was returning theirs that day, but they refused to call the customer and confirm because they were "too busy."
Then, they told me there was a small car available at their Billund branch, but instead of arranging for the car to be brought to Kolding, they expected me to drive to Billund to pick it up. Since I urgently needed the smaller car, I had no choice but to drive there myself.
To make matters worse, they charged me twice despite saying they wouldn't. I have been trying to resolve this issue for the past 20 days, but customer service has been useless. The Kolding and Fredericia branches admitted there’s a problem with their system that caused the double charge, but despite multiple promises, nothing has been done to fix it. I've been running from one branch to another, wasting my time, while they continue to hold onto my money.
I want my money back, and they can deal with their system issues whenever they want, but it shouldn’t be at the cost of their customers!
Horrible Experience with Avis
We rented a car for 2 days. Danny at the counter was very helpful. But after we returned the car in the drop off location early in the morning, we were emailed showing an extra $200 for cleaning the dust on the rear door and some small dust also in the front seat floor!
Furthermore, the final payment they took from the card was even +$200 without any explanation!! A $240 rental suddenly became $770!!
We have been using Avis in various countries happily but this was a horrible experience! We are still waiting for answers from the customer service…
No way we are renting a car from them again in Copenhagen… and you shouldn’t either if you want to go back home happy…
Good job Simran

Don't use this company
Don't use this company, the terms and conditions are design to get you in trouble. I have rent a car for a week and brought back in perfect condition. I left the car out of the office hours as directed to, without being warned that in until reopening I am still responsible for damages. Guess what? The car had a scratch and I did not receive a picture to prove it! They do not have dedicated parking space, even thought there is a large underground park that could protect the cars. They should make it very clear at the time of booking and at pick up, especially when they give you an upgrade not asked for. On top of this, it is hard to get anyone on the phone out of office hours. When I had to drop off the car, I thought the office would have been open, but it was not and I did know what to do, and no help line seem to work.
Use any other company if you can, I will.
Rented car category not kept - without price reduction
The rented car category was not available even if we had reserved it. Instead of a higher quality vehicle, the next lower category was handed over to us, but we had to pay the full price! Canceling the contract would have cost us even more. This seems to me to be a rip-off.
When we returned the vehicle, alleged damage to the vehicle was discovered. We were charged for this! In addition to this, we were also charged a loss of earnings per day!
I cannot recommend this agency with the best will in the world!
SCAMMERS!!!
SCAMMERS!!!! Don't rent any cars from them!!!!! I returned the car in perfect condition and the next day they wrote to me that...
after returning the vehicle, their employee allegedly performed a standard vehicle return inspection and identified new damage that had occurred during the rental. They wrote in the email that the photo was attached but they didn't even attach it - scammers and liars!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They will do anything to not give back your deposit!!!!! I regret that I rented a car from you and I will not recommend it to anyone!!!!!!!!!!
Absolutely disgusting experience
Absolutely disgusting experience. I hired and paid a car for my DK trip through the airline in combination with my flight tickets. When collecting the car (completely different than org hired) I paid an extra insurance to be sure. Allowed them to take the extra 1500 kroner from my visa. When returning the car all was good. A week later I got an email from their insurance claming I damaged the car in two places. Them dents have been on the rental paper's from previous renter's,so they tried to blame me. As I had the additional insurance I was clearly assured via email that I had not to pay anything and see about from any contact received. Today almost two months later, they tried to charge my credit card 1200 kroners. I was lucky to decline the transaction. So be careful not to deal with those criminals. Not recommended at all !!!
Think before using Travellink/AVIS
Think before using Travellink/AVIS; they just stole my money.
I normally don't share like this, but the service at Travellink is like nothing I've seen before. They took my money for renting a car but did not provide the car. Yes, they took $1333 USD.
We rented a car through Travellink, and we have rented cars many times before when we have been traveling, and there have never been any problems. But this time, they could not get my card to work (already paid online but for insurance) and did not provide the car. They did keep the money we paid. I have been corresponding with them, but I will not get the money back. They kept the money, but I did not get the car.
So, think about that next time you rent a car. I know I will not use Travellink/AVIS again.
Once again I am renting from Avis in…
Once again I am renting from Avis in the airport of Copenhagen.
As a frequent renter I am time after time being serviced by the most amazing representative Mr. Paul.
Not only is he smiling and explaining everything around the rental rules but again he gave me an amazing upgrade.
Thank you Avis and not at least Thank you Paul.
HIre car broke down completely
HIre car broke down completely. I had family nearby who took me home. Trying to get Avis to do ANYTHING was a nightmare. I eventually got myself to the nearest Avis office and had to hire another car. I was without a vehicle to over a day, had to arrange my own transport to and from my hotel despite promises by Avis to arrange a taxi to get their office and am still fighting with them to get extra charges removed. The rental ended on Monday 27th Feb. I am still emailing them to get a satisfactory conclusion.
It is now a week since I returned the car.
I will return here to let you know how it went....

What a costly mistake. We rented a car from this location
We rented a car from this location. The guy who helped us was very nice even getting us unlimited miles at no extra charge. We got the car and it was filthy. We drove it less than 150 km. We returned it at the exact time and place on a Sunday. No one was there. We left the car as instructed. We then got charged $900 for damages supposedly caused by our hitting an animal. We never hit ANYTHING ! Their claim is ludicrous. They sent us pictures that I wish I could post here. They have the distinctive pattern of a zig zag from pinking shears and with the effort the fiberglass broke. The feather is tiny.
But we were stupid and we did not take pictures so it’s our word against theirs. Do NOT rent from here. They are dishonest and horrible.
I have already left a review in Avis’ website. They literally are THE WORST. No wonder they have a 1.3 rating.
