Got the car I wanted!
I asked for a BMW 5 Series sedan and received the car I wanted. I would've preferred a V6, but that was the only complaint with the car. The car was new, and when I picked it up, the associate was pleasant.
Avoid Sixt, horrendous experience
I picked up a car for a 3 week hire from Chicago airport.
The lady that was on the desk was aggressively trying to add additional items to my rental. I was with my 3 children, one a baby, one nonverbal and autistic, all 5 and under. I explained we were in the States for medical treatment and already paying over $3500 for the first car with them and $3500 for the second.
The reason we couldn’t hire for the full 6 weeks was my husband was joining half way through the trip and Sixt insisted we would have to pay the second driver daily rate for the 3 weeks he wasn’t there unless we returned and rented a new car. Hassle no one needs.
I’d also taken full cover. Initially we were told we could have an upgrade but only if we took roadside assistance and a cover above full comp, which wasn’t required.
When I said no, I was told we couldn’t have the car and we’d have to wait for some time.
After an hour of waiting, for a car I’d pre-booked and arrived on time for. All my children were upset, they’d been travelling for over 20 hours from Dubai at this point, so I asked for management.
The person I was dealing with then lied and said she hadn’t said we couldn’t have the car for that reason and it wasn’t ready.
When my husband collected the second car, he was pushed into taking unlimited tolls and told the cost was a fifth of what he was actually charged.
Horrible, pushy experience. Since I’ve returned, I didn’t take the toll package for the first car and I keep getting emails with huge admin charges for tolls, that I had tried to pay at the time and couldn’t.

Excellent service and easy to book. Dropped a rating as I had booked a specific car but got another one. It does say in the booking "or something similar" but would be nice to know what car you will be getting up front.

No more rents with Sixt. Neither Europe nor US
I used to trust and to rent my cars in Sixt in both Europe and US cities, but my last experience in Sept 2025 in Orlando FL, specially with the *certains conditions apply statement, has changed my preferences and i will not work with this company anymore. Its Ad. offered a very interested discount due to my birthday (15%) and i did not pay too much attention to the *, sadly for a personal emergency i needed to return the car just 2 hours after renting it. When i called to help desk/airport to understand if there was a penalty for returning so soon, they just told me if was a pre-paid rented and they will not return any money!!. I wrote and called many times to Sixt to request just for a penalty and although a "supervisor" offered a potential goodwill discount, because they understood that emergencies could happen, it never occur and nobody contact me later. No more rents with you Sixt. It was the first time and first company that i have been rented that did adjust cost according to real car days' use.
I’ve been a loyal Sixt customer for…
I’ve been a loyal Sixt customer for years, but this last experience has been extremely disappointing. After renting a car for a full month and returning it without any issues, my account was suddenly blocked with no explanation.
Trying to resolve this has been a nightmare. The so-called “second level” customer service either never picks up, or after waiting 30–40 minutes on hold, I finally get through only to be told they can’t do anything because it’s up to their “security team.” The problem is the security team has no direct line of contact, so there’s no way to actually get help.
This process ruined my vacation. I’m left stranded without answers, after years of loyalty and thousands of dollars spent renting from Sixt. I’m writing this in hopes someone at Sixt takes responsibility, because right now it feels like they simply don’t care about their customers once they’ve been paid.

Company goes above and beyond to help clients
Thought I downloaded their app but somehow, I did not. Had to go to the counter. Very friendly, understanding and pleasant staff upgraded me for free.

I rented a car from Sixt Amsterdam…
I rented a car from Sixt Amsterdam Schiphol in July 2025. At drop-off no damage was noted, but days later Sixt emailed me with photos and demanded 1512.93 EUR for alleged damage. Despite repeated requests, they refused to provide the original inspection report or repair invoice. They then charged my credit card without consent or proper documentation. I have disputed the charge with my bank and reported the case to consumer authorities. Very disappointing experience — renters should be extremely cautious.
