Use Copilot data protections for business and enterprise

- [Instructor] If you use Copilot to help with projects related to your job, or your company, or similar organization, you may want to take advantage of the extra security and privacy protections offered by Copilot for a business or enterprise environment. Of course, from the Copilot Chat assistant, you can click the Sign in button at the top, and if you sign in with a personal account, it will enable the chat history and longer conversations. But if you sign in with a work or school account, you'll benefit from the enterprise-level security. The work or school account, in this case, refers to a Microsoft 365 account with your employer or school. In this case, your company or business purchases a Microsoft 365 subscription for the entire organization, then assigns accounts to each employee or student in the organization. I'll choose to sign in with a work or school account, then sign in with my Microsoft account for my organization. Once I'm signed in, at the top, I see this Protected label. And above the chat field, it says, "Your personal and company data are protected in this chat." So this uses commercial data protection to ensure that the questions and requests you make in Copilot cannot be accessed outside of your organization. Using Copilot like this is sometimes referred to as Copilot with Entra ID because Entra ID is the login security system used in Microsoft 365. This was previously referred to as Bing Chat Enterprise before Bing Chat was rebranded as Copilot. Now, beyond this, there is also an additional upgrade your organization can purchase to enable even more features. This subscription is called Copilot for Microsoft 365. One main feature that is added in this subscription is the ability to use Copilot AI tools inside of Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook. Now, this is similar to Copilot Pro, which enables features like this for individual users, but Copilot from Microsoft 365 is not for individuals. It's purchased by organizations with a business or enterprise subscription. So the AI tools available in the office applications are more robust, and it also enables AI tools inside of Microsoft Teams. But there is another big feature that relates to the Copilot Chat assistant. So I'll go back to Copilot.microsoft.com and I'm going to sign out of this account, and instead, I'm going to sign into a different work account, which also has that Copilot for Microsoft 365 upgrade license. And now Copilot looks a little different. At the top, it says Copilot for Microsoft 365. And in addition to all of the features and capabilities we've seen in this course, it can also answer questions about the people, meetings, events, and documents in my organization. For example, I could go to the chat field and ask, "When was my last meeting with Stewart Mori?" And it answers that question-based on information about my calendar and other people in my organization. Next, I want to ask a question about a document that was shared with me using my company's OneDrive. So in the chat field, I'll ask, "Which executives are mentioned in the..." And then, I want to refer to a specific document. So I can type the / key followed by the name of that document, and it searches for documents on my company's OneDrive or SharePoint. It found the document I wanted so I'll select that, and then I'll send this request. And it answers that question-based on information from the document. And of course, these requests and questions are protected by commercial data protection in Microsoft 365. So if you are using a Microsoft 365 account with your work or school, whether it's a normal account or you have the upgraded Copilot subscription, you can sign in here on the Copilot website or any of the other places where you use Copilot, which we've seen in this course. Okay, so let's finish by summarizing the subscription upgrades available. Business users can sign in with an existing Microsoft 365 account to use Copilot with enhanced security, and this is known as Copilot with Entra ID, or their organization can pay for the Copilot from Microsoft 365 upgrade to use Copilot tools inside of Microsoft 365 applications and use the enterprise-level chat assistant. Individual users can sign in with a free account to enable chat history and longer conversations, and that's sometimes known as Copilot with MSA, or they can buy Copilot Pro to use the Copilot tools inside of Microsoft 365 applications, and enable faster responses in the normal Copilot Chat.
