Individual vs. team brainstorming

- We often think of brainstorming as a group activity and, truthfully, most of the techniques we're going to discuss in this course were designed for a group. Yet there's incredible value in brainstorming individually. Traditionally, team ideation or brainstorming is favored because of two older psychological premises. First is that more participants means more motivation. And second is that quantity leads to quality. Alex Osborne, the father of brainstorming, claimed that brainstorming should enhance creative performance by almost 50% versus individuals working on their own. But an article in the Harvard Business Review argued that there is very little evidence that a room full of participants will produce better ideas than the same number of individuals working independently.
