The number on a fishing reel determines its size. Most manufacturers have the size labeled anywhere from 1,000 to 30,000. However, some fishing reel producers label their sizes from 10-300. So a 1,000 size reel may be labeled as 10, a 5,500 reel labeled as 55, and so on. Finding the appropriate size reel is important as you want your reel to be strong enough to handle the type of fishing you'll do, but you don't want an oversized reel if you don't require that much power or line length.
