Media misframing of global climate crisis ignores its root cause

Much of the reporting about heatwave across Europe lacked any context, deflecting from the hard discussions we need to have about tackling the biggest single threat to our planet

We’ve just survived the hottest month on record, the hottest in around 120,000 years, according to scientists. Yet, if media reporting is anything to go by, we are a long way off a clear public understanding of climate change and science.

When it comes to climate, the media is generally in the grips of apathy, denial or disinformation. Across major publications there is sparse coverage of climate and nature, with climate deniers still given airtime to spread misinformation in the interest of “balance”.
