You will need

  • White paper or card
  • Two cups or small bowls
  • Teaspoon
  • Tablespoon
  • Cotton buds or a paintbrush
  • Old newspapers or recycled cardboard
  • Paper towels or kitchen roll
  • Bicarbonate of soda
  • Water
  • Turmeric
  • Surgical spirit
  • Rubber gloves
  • Lab coat or old clothes

Instructions

Step 1: Put on your rubber gloves and lab coat (or old clothes) because turmeric can stain clothes and cover table tops with cardboard.

Step 2: In a bowl, mix a tablespoon of bicarbonate of soda with a tablespoon of water.

Step 3: Next, in the other bowl, mix half a teaspoon of turmeric with three tablespoons of surgical spirit.

Get a grown-up to help you pour the surgical spirit.

Step 4: Dip the cotton bud into bowl one and write your secret message on the paper.

Step 5: Allow to dry and brush off any bicarbonate of soda left.

Step 6: Take a brush, dip it in the turmeric and surgical spirit mix and paint it over the secret message.

Step 7: You'll notice the message magically emerging!
