Welcome to The Singers Talk podcast based on my book of the same name. I’m Jason Thomas Gordon (singer/drummer of the Los Angeles rock band Kingsize), and when I first started singing for my band, I couldn’t believe there was no resource to find out how singers do this brutal job night after night. For something that seems easy, it can be truly dangerous, often embarrassing, and when you’re lucky… absolutely glorious.
So, this is me, reaching out to some of the greatest, most iconic singers of our time, discussing the one the thing they’re never asked about: their voices! Never thinking this was going to be a podcast, most of the interviews you’re going to hear are the intimate conversations, as I write the actual book…
If you’re a music fan, you’ll get a backstage look at how your favorite vocalists approach what they do onstage and in the studio. Packed with amazing stories you’ve never heard before, you’ll also find vulnerable sides of their personalities you might never have expected.
And if you’re a singer, trying to train, help, heal, or even find your voice — you’ll learn how the best in their field keep their vocal cords in shape, how they protect themselves on the road, and countless other tricks, strategies, and philosophies…
Not a technical podcast in any way, The Singers Talk celebrates the people who stand up in front of that mic, reach down into their guts, and give everything they’ve got for the sake of the song. Sometimes it’s bloody. And sometimes it’s bloody hilarious.

    Wendy Melvoin on Prince

    Wendy Melvoin on Prince

Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. In this special episode I had the honor of speaking of with legendary songwriter, guitarist, producer, and iconic member of Prince & the Revolution: Wendy “Is the water warm enough?” Melvoin. I got to ask her questions I always wanted to know about Prince - some of them deeply personal - and Wendy was just so lovely and cool, I can’t say enough. And what can be said about Prince himself? The man sold over 150 million records, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, won seven Grammy’s, an Academy Award, and too many other awards to mention. But importantly, he changed our lives forever. Dig if you will this beautiful one….

    Michael McDonald

    Michael McDonald

Welcome to The Singers Talk Podcast based on my book of the same name. My guest this week is Michael “You don’t know me, but I’m your bruuuutha” McDonald. Is there anyone on this planet who doesn’t love singing along to this legend? His voice defined the sound of the 70’s - from his lead vocals to his background vocals - and this episode gets into all of it. The Doobie Brothers, Steely Dan, the lessons he’s learned from singing Motown music, his out of body duet with Ray Charles, the story of Michael writing one of Van Halen’s greatest songs with David Lee Roth, and why music was so much better when people weren’t trying to sound like everyone else.

Love this podcast and in-depth interviews

I’m really loving this new podcast. Jason is easy to listen to and asks questions which offer the most insight to the best singers.

My personal favorite so far is Wendy Melvoin’s interview with her friend and collaborator, Prince. Wendy shared so much on Prince and his creative process! Thank you, Jason and Wendy 💜 I will forever love our own fellow Minnesotan, Prince.

I had the pleasure of meeting him downtown Minneapolis in the late 80s at clubs he frequented. Treasured memories!

I can’t wait for this whole series!

I already have Jason‘s amazing book but knowing that there is going to be a podcast with full interviews is the perfect companion. The first episode has everything for fans of music as well as process and vocalists. I have been waiting for this my whole life and my only complaint is that there aren’t more episodes already posted and that I wish there were more living vocalists Jason could have spoken to for posterity. I can’t recommend this enough and it is only one episode in. Also all proceeds going to St. Jude’s just pays it all forward.

Outstanding

Came in as a fan of the book, which is super entertaining and informative. This podcast is a tremendous companion. Such a treat to hear the voices behind the text I’ve been enjoying these past several months. Looking forward to more eps!
