Jaime King is ending her marriage to husband Kyle Newman after 15 years together — and the split appears to be far from amicable.

The Black Summer actress, 41, filed for divorce on Monday morning in Los Angeles, PEOPLE confirms. King — who also filed a domestic violence prevention petition — shares two sons, James Knight, 6, and Leo Thames, 4, with the director, 44.

Reps for King and Newman have not commented.

The two met on the set of the film Fanboys, which Newman directed. They tied the knot in 2007 at the Greystone Park and Manor in Los Angeles, which also marked site of their first date more than a year prior to the ceremony.

“I don’t know why, but some part of me was instantly connected to him, and I loved him so much,” King told InStyle Weddings at the time. “It was intense. I never thought that would happen to me.”

Over the years, Newman and King have weathered difficult moments together as parents. In April 2019, King opened up about Leo’s heart condition, telling PEOPLE Now that she first found out her son had a condition called transposition of the great arteries, “which is a very serious heart defect,” while she was 33 weeks pregnant.

“When you have a voice, you need to use your voice in a responsible way,” she said, adding that Leo went on to undergo heart surgery at 20 weeks old. “And I look at my child now, and he’s so strong and amazing and vibrant, but when you’re breastfeeding a baby with 67 lines in them, it’s just a totally different experience.”

And in 2018, the actress was left "very shaken up" after James Knight was struck by glass when a man allegedly attacked the parked car he was sitting in with a female friend of the actress in Beverly Hills.

"I am incredibly blessed to be your mama. Thank you for choosing me my beautiful babies. May I always hold for you and be the safest space that you know 🦋with happiness, peace, unconditional loving, support, laughter, abundance, understanding, joy and hearing and seeing you for you forever," King wrote on Mother's Day earlier this month.
