Glenn Close's Gold Oscars Dress Weighs 42 Lbs. — And Is Covered in 4 Million Beads!

Is The Wife star sending Oscars voters a hint in her golden gown?

Is Glenn Close hoping for a #twinning moment with an Oscar later tonight?

The 71-year-old star of The Wife is up for an Academy Award for Best Actress, and she looked just like the statuette in a glittering gold Carolina Herrera gown.

The long-sleeved dress wraps into a tuxedo-like bodice and a long, sparkly cape — all made possible with a whopping 4 million beads.

All that armor comes at a cost — Close told E!’s Ryan Seacrest that the gown weighs a hefty 42 lbs.!

After their interview, Seacrest called over her agent, Kevin Huvane, to help her down the stairs.

“Be careful coming down!” Seacrest yelled out.

Close is a frontrunner for the Best Actress award after snagging the prize at the Golden Globes, the SAG Awards, the Independent Spirit Awards and tying the other favorite, Lady Gaga, at the Critic’s Choice Awards.

This is Close’s seventh Academy Award nomination, making her the actress with the most nominations and no wins. She said in December that she would love to finally win, but she was okay with holding on to that unique record if not.

“First of all, how thrilling that would be,” Close told PEOPLE’s Editor-in-Chief Jess Cagle in an episode of The Jess Cagle Interview (streaming on PeopleTV). “I’ve survived in this business for what, 43 years? Then it becomes kind of great to never win in a way, I guess. [Laughs]”

Plus, Close added, she’s not someone who counts her eggs before they hatch.

“I’m a pragmatic Yankee and I’ve forced myself to not believe in anything until it happens,” she said. “[The Wife] is a little independent film! No one wanted to make a movie called The Wife. Most of the money came from Europe.”

The 91st Academy Awards are broadcasting live from Los Angeles on Sunday, Feb. 24 at 8:00 p.m. ET/5:00 p.m. PT on ABC.
