Irish actor Cillian Murphy was victorious in the best male actor - motion picture - drama category, taking home the trophy for portraying J. Robert Oppenheimer.

Oppenheimer, of course, was the theoretical scientist who directed the Manhattan Project.

Murphy accepted the award with his wife's lipstick on his nose. Addressing her and their children, he said, "To my family: I’m the luckiest man. I love you."

Emma Stone Takes Home Acting Globe for Poor Things

Emma Stone just won best female actor – motion picture – musical/comedy for her role in Yorgos Lanthimos' film Poor Things.

Stone portrays Bella Baxter in the film, a woman who has had an infant's brain implanted into her body.

Director Christopher Nolan Wins His First Golden Globe

Oppenheimer's director Christopher Nolan won the best director - motion picture award, marking his first victory at the Globes.

During his acceptance speech, he noted that the last time he was onstage was to accept Heath Ledger's posthumous acting award for his role in Nolan's film, The Dark Knight.

Japanese film The Boy and the Heron won best picture - animated.

Not too unlike the Succession character that earned him best television male actor - drama series, Kieran Culkin used some fun, deadpan humor to lighten the mood during his acceptance speech.

First joking that he was dealing with indigestion, Culkin then told fellow nominee Pascal to "suck it."

On a more serious note, Culkin said, "I was nominated for a Golden Globe 20 years ago, and when that moment passed I sort of remember thinking I’m never going to be back in this room again. Which, was fine. Whatever. But thanks to Succession, I’ve been in here a couple of times, which is nice. But I sort of accepted I’m never going to be on stage, so this is a nice moment, thank you."

Ayo Edebiri continued the wins for drama series The Bear, snagging best television female actor — musical/comedy series.

During his humorous acceptance speech, Downey Jr. poked fun at his own career and having to accept that his agents' were "right" when they pushed him to pursue different projects like Oppenheimer.

He also teasingly referred to his wife, Susan Downey, as his "primary caregiver."

Da'Vine Joy Randolph Wins the Night's First Award

Da’Vine Joy Randolph was the 2024 Golden Globe Awards first winner, taking home best supporting female actor in a motion picture for her performance in The Holdovers.

Randolph said in her speech that her character Mary has "changed my life — you have made me feel seen in so many ways that I've never imagined, and I hope I've helped you all find your inner Mary. Because there's a little bit of her in all of us."

Koy Kicks Off the Ceremony with a Fun Monologue

"I"m taking this all in," Koy told the gathered celebrities at the start of the show, before looking around at the stars and declaring his hosting spot as the "best seat in the house."

The comedian joked in his monologue that he hadn't actually viewed much of the nominated work except for Netflix series Beef ("I'm Asian!" he explained).

But his 2024 New Year's resolution is to finish Oppenheimer — in 2025.

After a few groans following joke about Robert De Niro's recent baby joy at age 80, Koy teased, "I got the gig 10 days ago, you want a perfect monologue?"

In fact, Koy continually reminded the audience when jokes landed flat that he "didn't write" all of the bits.

Oprah Winfrey Continues Her Purple Style Streak

Oprah Winfrey, who produced The Color Purple (and starred in the original film), has worn purple for every event on the musical's promotional tour.

She continued that trend at the Globes on Sunday, in a vibrant long-sleeved gown.

"Party Animal" Reese Witherspoon Brings Her Son to the Globes

Reese Witherspoon brought her son, Deacon Phillippe, as her date for Sunday's show — and he was "very excited" about their big night out.

"This is my first Golden Globes and really my first awards show," Phillippe, 20, told Variety during the pre-show. "I’m very excited."

Phillippe, whose dad is actor Ryan Phillippe, said he came prepared with "two main things: gum, hand sanitizer and be nice to everyone."

And as a special treat, there's no curfew tonight. In fact, Phillippe said he was just following The Morning Show star: "She’s the party animal and I’m just trying to keep up."

While chatting with a reporter during the Variety and Entertainment Tonight red carpet pre-show, married couple Naomi Watts and Billy Crudup teased if they'll appear together in any upcoming projects — but it seems to be up-in-the-air.

Laughing, Watts said, "We need one — pitch it!"

When the reporter suggested a rom-com, Watts was agreeable: "That sounds good, he's funny."

Crudup — who is nominated for best performance by a male actor in a supporting role on television for The Morning Show — was also on board: "I've always been great at those."

School Is Back in Session with Quinta Brunson

Abbott Elementary star Quinta Brunson hit the carpet wearing a jaw-dropping Balmain gown.

Brunson is nominated for best performance by a female actor in a television series, musical or comedy for her role of Janine Teagues — an award she's won previously.

The beloved ABC comedy series will return for a third season this year on Feb. 7.

The Red Carpet Kicks Off with a Kiss

This Is Us alum Justin Hartley and his wife Sofia Pernas were among the first stars to walk the red carpet on Sunday, and marked the occasion with a kiss.

Pernas' off-the-shoulder shimmering gown was the perfect complement to Hartley's tan tux.

Pernas and Hartley got married in May 2021, and have been by each other's sides for big moments ever since.

Jo Koy Is Ready for His Hosting Duties

Comedian Jo Koy will be taking on hosting duties this evening, and teased his headlining gig in an Instagram video posted a few hours before showtime.
