Lifestyle Style A Letter from the Editor Andrea Lavinthal, PEOPLE's Style and Beauty Director, takes you inside the pages of the fall edition of People StyleWatch By Andrea Lavinthal Andrea Lavinthal Andrea Lavinthal has 20 years of experience as a writer, editor and content creator and has worked at PEOPLE since 2012.Before joining PEOPLE, Andrea worked at Cosmopolitan, Us Weekly and SiriusXM. People Editorial Guidelines Updated on September 21, 2023 12:19PM EDT Ask any fashion editor what their favorite season is and you’ll hear “fall” across the board (and it’s not just because we’re big fans of foliage). It's the back-to-school shopping, of course. Even though it’s been a while since most of us have sat in a classroom, fall will forever be associated with reinventing ourselves for the year with some new clothes. And shoes. And a bag. And don't forget a haircut. Inside this issue (which is brought to you with our partner, Gap, a brand that's synonymous with classic pieces that have a modern twist), you’ll find closet staples like the perfect white button down and a tailored blazer, plus what’s trending right now, including denim maxi skirts and Mary Jane flats. There’s also outfit inspiration from your favorite ‘90s pop culture icons (because as we always say around here, everything old is new again). Speaking of my favorite decade and its style icons, my biggest source of fashion inspiration during that time was the supermodels who dominated magazine covers, ad campaigns and even music videos. Not only did I give my best “model-off-duty” look while strutting the halls of my New Jersey middle school, but I even designed my bat mitzvah dress after the high-low hemline wedding gown Stephanie Seymour wore in the Guns N’ Roses “November Rain” video. Our Fall 2023 PEOPLE StyleWatch cover star Heidi Klum knows a thing or two about being a ‘90s icon. She posed for photographer Max Montgomery before sitting down with Deputy West Coast Editor Jason Sheeler to talk about everything from her early days in the industry (incredibly, she was told she was “too happy” to be a successful model), how she feels about her 19-year-old daughter Leni following in her footsteps and how she grew her personal brand way beyond the runway. Heidi Klum with PEOPLE editor Jason Sheeler. We close things out with another icon and model-turned-mogul, Tyra Banks, who reflects on breaking barriers in fashion, turning 50 and what brings her happiness as well. Hope you get some of that back-to-school joy from this issue, too. Andrea P.S. If you want to channel our ‘90s-inspired cover shoot, check out these new arrivals from the Gap. Buy It!
