Leo Woodall is still adjusting to the glitz and glamour of life post-White Lotus

It’s safe to say that red carpet looks don't exactly come naturally to the London-born actor, 27, who rose to fame on season 2 of the HBO series last year and made another splash as the romantic lead in Netflix’s One Day. He credits his stylist, Chris Brown, who he calls “wonderful,” for doing “a lot of that work for me” when it comes to his red carpet moments.

Woodall is a laid-back guy, usually dressed in “trainers and trackies,” he tells PEOPLE in the latest issue, using the British slang for sneakers and sweatpants. “I’m usually, 99% of the time, comfort over…. Whatever the other word is.”

With his stylist’s help, though, he’s had some seriously fashion-forward moments in the year since his shocking turn as cocky Essex boy Jack on The White Lotus.

Between attending the 2023 Emmys in January, the 2023 Screen Actors Guild Awards — where he and the star-studded cast accepted the award for outstanding ensemble in a drama series — and some chic street style during an outing with his girlfriend and former castmate Meghann Fahy, Woodall is getting the hang of things, but he’s taking his time with it.

“[Brown] also definitely caters to the fact that I was not very fashion-y beforehand,” Woodall says of how his stylist meets him in the middle. “And I'm slowly getting more used to it and getting more into it I guess.”

Just for good measure, though, he clarifies: “But I still wear trackies.”

Woodall also admits that he and his White Lotus character — who shocked audiences with a racy plot twist involving his supposed “uncle” (Tom Hollander) — have a little bit in common when it comes to their style.

“I get recognized because I dress like my character,” he says while describing the life changes he’s faced since the career-launching role.

He feels “quite lucky” for his time spent on the Mike White hit.

“I had a really fun role in the show. And the show — it was so lovely that so many people were watching it and loving it. And I was very proud to be a part of that,” he says, adding, “But I also maintained a level of anonymity, which I was really holding onto.”
