Want to Be Dominated / Will Dominate You refers to a series of memes based on a black and white artwork by artist Miyamoto Issa that depicts four schoolgirls standing side by side with each other. In early 2020, a recaptioned version of the image assigning the girls dominance preferences gained popularity in ironic memes, with the fourth girl usually replaced with various characters.
Origin
On April 17th, 2016, artist Miyamoto Issa (@Miyamoto_Issa)[1] tweeted a black and white artwork of four schoolgirls of different heights standing side by side with each other (shown below). The post received over 250 retweets and over 990 likes in four years.

In the following years, the image was widely circulated online on Facebook, Twitter and other websites. For example, on October 7th, 2017, Twitter[2] user @Nicogatari reposted the artwork, writing "Choose your waifu," with the tweet gaining 50 retweets and over 200 likes. Several recaptioned versions of the image were also circulated, particularly on Facebook[3][4] (examples shown below, left and center). In December 2019, a version in which the girls were tagged "want to be dominated / will dominate you / will ask you to be gentle / NOOB" received spread online (shown below, right). For example, a December 23rd, post by Facebook[5] group "Crave Me 「お願い」" received over 1,100 reactions and 410 shares in three months.
On January 5th, 2020, Facebook[6] group Secondhand Memes posted a Staring Fish / Hubert meme based the recaptioned version of the image, with the post receiving over 860 reactions and 2,300 shares in two months (shown below).
In the following weeks, the image was widely circulated online on Facebook, Reddit and other websites. For example, January 20th[7] and 29th[8] reposts in /r/okbuddyretard received over 1,800 and 7,100 upvotes respectively. On January 13th, Facebook[9] group Koza posted the earliest known variation of the meme, changing the caption "hubert" to "Festiwal Bypass" (shown below, left). On January 17th, Facebook[10] group Arrechoposteo Requiem – División Internacional posted a 9 + 10 = 21 version of the meme which received over 600 reactions and 1,000 shares in two months (shown below, right).
In late February 2020, the format saw a surge in popularity on Facebook, with multiple groups posting examples of the meme. For example, a February 21st, meme by "Patrician Music Chartposting: You wish you were this patrish"[11] received over 130 reactions in two weeks. A February 27th, post by TF2 Memes[12] received over 650 reactions and 230 shares in eight days.
