About

Supermanning is an internet slang term that describes ejaculating on a woman's back while she sleeps and then sticking a cape or blanket to her back to make her resemble Superman. The act was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2008 and went viral on TikTok in July 2023 in videos where users instruct viewers to either not Google the term or to film themselves before and after looking up "Supermanning."

Origin

On December 30th, 2008, Urban Dictionary^[1] user BobGre defined the term "Superman," garnering over 1,250 upvotes in 15 years, writing:

"When a guy cums on a girl's back while she sleeps and then sticks a cape (blanket) on her back, thus making her superman. Men usually do this because they are pissed at the girl for some reason."

By July 2023, the term became one of the top search results on Google for "supermanning." On July 2nd, 2023, TikToker^[2] @user726262627188182 posted a video captioned, "before and after searching what 'supermanning' is" filming her reaction, offering the opinion, "I think that's rape," garnering over 30,000 views in three days (shown below). It is likely she is reacting to the 2008 definition of the term. The poster later wrote in a comment, "its when a gf will decline the dirty with her bf and he does it on her back while she’s asleep."

The trend and term became increasingly popularized on TikTok over the following days as users continued to post videos filming their reactions after Googling "supermanning." On July 3rd, 2023, TikToker^[3] @n4mpho1o9y posted a version of the trend that gained over 1.5 million views in two days (shown below, left). On July 4th, TikToker^[4] @truston_is_ur_fav posted a video that gained over 477,000 views in a day (shown below, right).
