I Want to See You. I'm In the Barnyard refers to a series of memes using an image from the 2006 Barnyard video game in which a pig sends a text message to the player reading, "I want to see you. I'm in the barnyard." The image first became the subject of memes and reactions in February 2020, with many framing it as reading like a romantic proposition, becoming increasingly popularized as a reaction image over the following years.

Origin

In the 2006 Barnyard video game, the player will occasionally receive text messages from barnyard animals asking the player to meet them.

On February 24th, 2020, X^[1] user @gloomygalleon posted a collection of these text messages, including one from a contact named "Pig" reading, "I want to see you. I'm in the barnyard," garnering over 400 likes in four years (shown below). Later that day, X^[2] user @RyanRibbity reposted the pig image, writing, "Barnyard is the best game I've ever played," garnering over 9,500 likes in the same span of time.

Spread

The image gained viral spread over the following years. On July 13th, 2021, X^[3] user @dragon_scim posted the image in reference to the game Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl, writing, "pig mains after you 2-0 them at locals," garnering over 14,000 likes in three years (shown below, left). On May 11th, 2022, X^[4] user and streamer @eddyburback posted a meme using the image, garnering over 7,300 likes in two years (shown below, right).

On August 17th, 2023, Instagram^[5] user child_services_ posted the original meme, garnering over 62,000 likes in six months. On February 19th, 2024, X^[6] user @rats7 posted a painting of the meme, writing, "The coolest thing about art is that you can really just make whatever you want," garnering over 47,000 likes in a day (shown below).
