Matos Rodríguez today announced a nearly $12 million expansion towards the CUNY Inclusive Economy Initiative, which leverages CUNY campus resources to create college-to-career pipelines for CUNY students. To date, the initiative — which first launched in 2022 — has served over 3,100 students and worked with more than 2,000 industry partners, advancing the city’s goal to connect 80 percent of CUNY graduates with careers following graduation by 2030.

More Than 33,000 Students Return to CUNY to Complete Their Degree Through Innovative Reconnect Program
May 15, 2024 | The UniversityCUNY Reconnect, a city-funded program designed to engage New Yorkers who earned college credits but stopped short of getting a degree, has helped the City University of New York re-enroll 16,319 students during the 2023-2024 academic year, bringing to 33,378 the number of students who have returned to college at CUNY since Reconnect was launched in 2022. More than 10% of them – 3,375 – have already completed a degree or are on track to do so this spring. Of those students, the majority were attending part time.

CUNY Introduces New Accessibility Policy for Students with Disabilities

The policy addresses the critical needs of more than 10,000 CUNY students with disabilities by ensuring that inclusion, equity and accessibility are factors in every decision involving academic policy and by creating procedures and strict deadlines to act on requests for academic accommodations across CUNY’s 25 campuses.

Gov. Hochul Launches Public Awareness Campaign to Encourage Students to Complete the FAFSA

Kathy Hochul today launched a public awareness campaign with college students, Administration officials, and education leaders to encourage students to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid to unlock state and federal financial aid opportunities. This week, students at the City University of New York and State University New York campuses as well as at other New York colleges and universities will assist in the public awareness campaign to help students fill out the FAFSA. Additionally, leaders from Gov. Hochul’s cabinet will participate with video PSAs to post on social media and as a resource for schools to share with students. Student videos and PSAs are available here. This push is a part of Financial Aid Awareness Month, which Gov. Hochul launched at the beginning of April to ensure students can access the tools they need to pursue a higher education.

CUNY Citizenship Now! and Univision NY Partner to Host Annual Citizenship Drive
April 22, 2024 | The UniversityCUNY Citizenship Now!, the nation’s largest university-based legal assistance program, is partnering with Univision NY to host its Spring Citizenship Drive event on May 18. The event, “Become a Citizen: Opportunities Await,” will take place at CUNY’s John Jay College of Criminal Justice from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., and aims to help 250 permanent residents apply for citizenship while creating awareness of the advantages of becoming a U.S. citizen. Registration for the free event opens on April 22.
