Sharks back in re-election zone.
Byline: Chris Roberts ,Struggling Huddersfield Sharks are back in the National Conference League re-election zone.
Their 42-8 defeat at Ince Rosebridge pushed them down to second bottom of the Second Division table after fellow strugglers Heworth pulled off a 44-26 triumph over bottom club Saddleworth Rangers.
And with the bottom two in the division having to apply for re-election at the end of the season, the Sharks face a worrying start to the New Year.
The Syngenta-based side know they will have to start winning games quickly if they are not to fall adrift with Saddleworth at the foot of the table.
But there were again signs in the opening half at Ince that they are capable of troubling teams in the competition.
After a tight opening 40 minutes, the Sharks were just 12-8 behind and seemed capable of pushing on for the victory.
A Chris Lodge try and two Richard Knight goals showed the Sharks meant business and at the interval confidence was good.
Unfortunately, everything fell apart at the start of the second half and the visitors were soon well behind.
The crucial moment came in the 54th minute when Lee Mason was harshly sent off for a high tackle.
Within minutes Ritchie Hawkyard was sent to the sin-bin following a fracas, and defeat was inevitable.
The Sharks, meanwhile, have pulled their second team out of the Pennine League, with the full blessing of the Conference League. Full details tomorrow.
