Eighth meeting of the Working Group on Amendments to the International Health Regulations (2005) – resumed

16 – 17 May 2024
09:30–21:00 CET, Geneva, Switzerland

In May 2022, the World Health Assembly agreed to embark on a process to consider proposed amendments to the current International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR). The process is being led by the Member States of WHO through the Working Group on Amendments to the International Health Regulations (WGIHR) and builds on lessons learned from the various review panels that examined the functioning of the IHR and the global public health architecture during the response to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resumed session of the eighth meeting of the WGIHR will be held on 16–17 May 2024.

The meeting will run from 09:30–21:00 each day.

The resumed session will continue with discussions under Agenda item 3 (Consideration of proposed amendments including text proposals from the Bureau and the outcome of intersessional discussions), with attendance limited to WHO Member States; Associate Members; regional economic integration organizations; the Holy See and Liechtenstein as States Parties to the IHR that are not Member States of WHO; and the Observer Delegation of Palestine.

Agenda Items 5 (Report of the meeting) and 6 (Closure of the session) will be taken up on the evening of Friday 17 May and will be open to relevant stakeholders and non-State actors.

The Provisional Agenda and Programme of Work for the eighth meeting of the WGIHR are available at https://apps.who.int/gb/wgihr/ in the six official languages.

This is expected to be the final WGIHR meeting ahead of the Seventy-seventh World Health Assembly in May 2024.
