Eiichi Shimizu

Biography

Mr. Shimizu is a Senior Technical Advisor in the Bureau of International Health Cooperation at the National Center for Global Health and Medicine in Japan. He has been leading various Access & Delivery projects for universal access to safe, effective, quality, and affordable health technologies and products, including vaccines, in low-resource settings. Previously working over 10 years in Africa, his extensive work in this area included, UNICEF’s polio campaign and emergency fundraising in Namibia, Ebola preparedness in Sudan with MSF, and health system strengthening in Kenya and Zambia with JICA. He was actively involved in GAVI’s “Vaccine Bond” sales for innovative financing for market shaping. His focus is on strategic and effective use of public support by manufacturers for equitable access to and delivery of vaccines and other health products in support of national efforts toward SDG 3.8 (Universal Health Coverage target).
