Biography

Professor Claudia Hanson is an Associate Professor in epidemiology and maternal health at London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine (LSHTM), UK, as well as at Karolinska Institute, Sweden. Trained as an Obstetrics & Gynaecology specialist (Germany 2000), she has worked in implementation of reproductive health programs with the German cooperation for about 5 years in Tanzania. Since 2009 she is working in research with a focus on i) measuring progress in maternal and neonatal health, including improving Health Management Information Systems, ii) evaluating strategies to improve quality of care in health facilities and iii) disentangle health systems constraints to provide appropriate care. She has supported data collection at community and health facility level to obtain information on the levels and causes of maternal mortality. She also worked on maternal mortality audits.
