Keeping track of units

- [Instructor] Keeping track of units is an important step in ensuring your final printed product is the size you expect. Remember the three steps it takes to make a 3D print? First, you create a 3D design, then you export it to STL or another compatible format. And then finally, you send your file to the 3D printer either by uploading it to a 3D printing service or by importing it to a slicer program for your own hardware. One of the challenges with this process is that it can be difficult to maintain the right size and scale because many mesh file types including the STL format do not record unit type. So when you're working on your 3D design in your software program, you specify a measurement system, either the metric system, which uses millimeters, centimeters or meters, or the imperial system which uses inches or feet.
