Using Midjourney's 5.2 Zoom feature

- [Instructor] In this video, we're going to explore the zoom out feature, which is available on up res images inside of Midjourney. So first of all, let's all start with a prompt, in order to see this. I am going to head with my direct conversation with the Midjourney bot, and let's type in /imagine. So we'll set up a prompt here, followed by a colon, and I'm going to type in, "A candid portrait of a baseball player shot in the 1920s with a 35-millimeter lens." Okay, let's follow that with a comma. And for the aspect ratio, --ar, let's choose a six-by-nine image, which is great for portrait and we'll keep it at that. So let's press return, and we'll see what Midjourney comes up with. And here we can see our four options. I like the one on the bottom right, so that's what I'm going to up res. And once the up res becomes available here, we'll be able to see the zoom features. We have a couple zoom out options. One is we can just click on the zoom out two times and it's just going to reuse the prompt that we entered and zoom out from this image. In this case, we don't have a lot of control for what we zoom out to. So if we take a look at the final results, it looks like he was shot in a dugout. And in some cases we even have a reflection back here as well. Let's choose in this instance, the one on the upper right hand corner. So I'm going to up res that, and then we'll have our zoom out options available to us again. And instead of choosing the zoom out two times, or 1.5 times, I'm going to choose a custom zoom. And a window's going to pop up very similar to remix. In this case, we could add to this prompt, but then keep in mind it's going to then reuse all of the information that we just typed in, not necessarily giving us what we want to zoom out to. So what we can try instead, is the following. In fact, I'm going to clear out this entire prompt by selecting it with my mouse, followed by the the delete key. And I'm just going to type in "In a baseball stadium." And in fact, because I want to also change the aspect ratio and the feel of this photo, I'm going to go really wide. So let's change this instead of six-by-nine, to three-by-one. And in terms of a zoom out, we can enter any number between one and two. In this case, I'm going to type in 1.8. Okay, so we've changed those values. This is our new text prompt, in a baseball stadium, new aspect ratio and a custom zoom level. Let's press Submit and see what Midjourney comes up with. Okay, we got a couple different results that I'm going to enlarge here. We can see here that there's some weird mixes going on based on the original portrait that was chosen. And then here's the entire stadium. So one thing we could do is actually go back to the original image instead of the zoomed out one. Just to show, this is the original candid photo. And here I want to try that custom zoom. I'll get rid of the prompt here, "In a baseball stadium." I'll Enter, and let's choose a much larger aspect ratio. That would be 16:9, and a zoom of two times is fine. Okay, let's see the new generation. Okay, I'm much happier with these results, and the job that Midjourney did. In this specific case, I really like the one on the upper right, so I'm going to up res that by pressing on U2. And for fun, one of the greatest things is that we can keep on actually zooming out. So this could be used for storyboards. And another big benefit is that we have character consistency with this, so it's not actually changing or varying the character in any way. And the last part that we can take advantage of is even animating this in an application like After Effects, or even a video editing application like Final Cut. So I'm just going to go here to custom zoom and just since I want to have complete control over what's going to show up here in the background now, I'm going to type in "On a spaceship," and we can choose an aspect ratio of 18:9 in this case, with a custom zoom level of 1.7. So I'll submit that and let's see the final result. Okay, we can see here that we get some interesting results. This isn't quite a spaceship. It happens to be a planet over on the top right hand corner. There's definitely a spaceship in the background of the one on the bottom left, but if it were to look like the interior of the spaceship, I would say that U1 is the closest. Again, we can keep on doing this with the various zoom levels. Another thing you can keep in mind is that if you do a custom zoom on an up res image, we can even send it an image link and blend it in with our text prompt to get some really interesting results and have control over that zoom. And that's how we can use the zoom out feature inside of Midjourney.
