What do you do if your presentations lack impact?

You can and should: ~Remind yourself (or find out) why you ended up having the opportunity to give the presentation. ~Work out who will be in the audience, and why they might want to listen to what you have to say. ~Work out what valuable message(s) you were asked to share. ~Be to the point during your presentation. ~For a while, think about what it is, specifically, that makes you feels afraid, and accept that feeling to an extent. ~Consider what might go wrong and to what extent you will be able to deal with this. ~Engage in mental training: practise your talk in your imagination - go through it, imagine the scene of the room where you will be delivering your talk. ~Try to feel good about yourself on the day ~Go for it. ~That’s it!

Feedback, como foi dito, é fundamental. Mas não é QUALQUER feedback, certo?

Prepare! - Practice: Identify gaps, improve delivery, and build confidence. - Ask your friends for feedback. - Make use of slides, charts, and images. Put your focus on impact! - Be engaging: Use eye contact, gestures, and polls to get your audience involved. - Stay Concise: Don't ramble. It's better to use simple language than jargon. - Make your presentation emotional with anecdotes. - Summarize key points and leave a lasting impression.

Present about things you care about, that you have an actual opinion about... Say what you think and feels and hold nothing back... Then they'll have impact!

Practice, Practice, Practice. I have taken many trainings on presentations and in the most powerful ones I was videoed and able to critic myself and have our instructor give me pointers. Although it was very nerve raking, I will say using this practice will help you greatly.

Details such as time of day you are presenting, if you have control over this, can make a big difference. Vary your engagement techniques throughout the presentation. Include videos, polls, think-pair-shares, and individual reflection time. Also consider the different types of learners in the room. Can some content be better explained through a graphic or a video? Changing up your presentation to account for your audience will keep them more engaged.
