To thrive in this career, you need to understand the intricacies of various platforms, create engaging content, and analyze data to inform strategies. Whether you're just starting or looking to enhance your expertise, acquiring these skills is crucial for success.
Understanding the fundamentals of social media platforms is the first step in your journey. I am of the opinion that a good basic cultural education is the "conditio sine qua non" for the good use of social media. Study, inform yourself well by choosing authoritative sources, this will help you.

By mastering the art of content creation, you can effectively leverage graphics, videos, and persuasive copy to captivate your audience's attention and inspire them to engage with your brand. It's all about understanding the psychology behind social sharing and knowing what motivates users to interact with and spread your content across their networks. People are no longer only interested in just perfect bodies, hair, or makeup. They want to see representation. So, it becomes our responsibility as advertisers to narrate their story and give them a chance to see a glimpse of themselves in the ads/assets that they see.
-
When it comes to learning how to create content like a pro it's easy to say in abstract 'mess around with graphics, different edits, content formats, etc' but experimenting by itself won't have you creating content like a pro. Creating great content is first about understanding why that content was successful in the first place. Next time you see something that caught your attention, ask 'What made this different?' and see if you can pull 2-3 lessons/takeaways each time. Once you've compiled dozens of lessons/takeaways THAT is when it really makes sense to mess around with executing on your own ideas.
-
You will be appreciated if you are able to disseminate high-level content. Don't follow the masses, but aim for quality. Consider the context: we are in a global climate crisis and we need ideas and information that support sustainable choices.
-
Absolutely! Content creation is the essence of social media marketing. Mastering visuals, copywriting, and understanding audience psychology are pivotal for crafting engaging posts that reflect your brand's identity.
-
If you do these 2 things, your content will become consistently more successful: 1. Practice making the same piece of content multiple times, each time changing the audience. Your grandmother won't enjoy watching a 90 second quick-clip TikTok GRWM as much as she would watching a calmer, less edited, longer clip version that's several minutes long. Cadence, tone and cultural references (etc) vary so much between demographics, so being able to adjust your content to a desired group is key in optimising your results. Of course, there are crossovers, but if you're targeting a specific audience, this is key. 2. Make content around a topic you find boring, but see how not boring you can make it. Get good at this and your content will improve.
-
Content creation is the cornerstone of social media management. The continuous, high-quality, engaging, and creative nature of the content is crucial for the target audience, or in other words, social followers, to follow the brand and, more importantly, to maintain their connection with it. It's also important for the content to be current and original. Delivering accurate information in the best possible way will keep the audience engaged.
-
Content creation, especially through videos, is now the cornerstone of effective social media marketing. Videos are particularly powerful in capturing audience engagement and conveying your brand's message vividly. As video content continues to dominate social platforms, mastering the art of video production—ensuring it is both engaging and reflective of your brand—becomes essential. This focus on video not only boosts visibility but also significantly enhances interaction with your audience.
Engagement is a key metric in social media marketing. It's not just about posting content; it's also about interacting with your audience. Learn how to start and maintain conversations, respond to comments, and use engagement tactics like polls and questions to foster a community around your brand. High engagement rates can lead to increased brand loyalty and reach.
-
Firstly, not all engagement is good engagement. Deliberately putting an error in your video, knowing that people will comment about it, will increase engagement but only in the short term. I've been guilty of this. It works, but if you want long-term engagement that's truly organic/healthy and not just reactionary, you have to foster that relationship by being consistent and committed. Treat your audience and their feedback like you're listening to guests at your birthday party. All of them have come because you mean something to them, some have nothing but kind words to say, others are having a rough week and will insult you no matter what you do. Importantly though, you're grateful they're in the room. PS: The trolls will dissipate.
-
To effectively engage users, it's crucial to understand the brand’s message and deliver it well. Additionally, leveraging new trends, pop culture references, and recent market developments can significantly enhance engagement. These elements help keep the content relevant and relatable, increasing brand loyalty and reach.
-
Always maintain a professional, respectful and polite attitude. Moderate the debate expertly: in my opinion, false information, for example that spread by climate deniers, should not be allowed. What do you think?
-
Engagement is pivotal for brand loyalty. Actively interacting and using engagement tactics fosters community, amplifying reach. Prioritizing interaction showcases commitment to audience connection in social media marketing.
-
Engagment is the difficult part in digital marketing no AI tool can do it because it is human feeling .The more you upload content the more tricks you understand the more you get close to be exposed to your desired audience
-
Gone are the days when marketing was one-way. People have always possessed a pov but today’s era of digital marketing has made it possible to provide a platform to the users to share their thoughts. And not making it engaging would be no less than stupidly I’d say.
-
O engajamento é importante e o tempo de interação também. Portanto, é fundamental que se tenha um CRM para acompanhamento de jornada. Além de organizar melhor os potenciais clientes, este sistema faz com que os tempos de resposta sejam ideais.
-
Always try to finish your post with a question to encourage answers to which you can respond, thus starting a conversation, social media is about the conversations, the engagement will then draw the interest of others and often commenting on a post someone else has put out and asking a question will also generate engagement, just like real life networking, have and be prepared to start a conversation.
-
Engaging users is paramount in social media marketing, extending beyond mere content posting to providing genuine value to the audience's time. With countless content pieces vying for attention, users interact only when they find value, whether through compelling storytelling, evoking emotions, or providing entertainment. Respecting the audience entails not only knowing them but continually experimenting and understanding them better. It involves proactive interaction, responding to their queries, but also speaking their language, embodying their perspectives, and authentically connecting with them. Building this trust ensures sustained engagement, fostering a loyal community that actively participates and advocates for the brand.
-
Engagement in social media goes beyond likes and shares; it's about creating a community around your brand. This involves actively listening to your audience, responding to comments, and participating in conversations. High engagement rates often indicate a strong connection between the brand and its audience, which can lead to increased brand loyalty and higher conversion rates.
Data analysis allows you to measure the effectiveness of your social media campaigns. Acquire skills in using analytics tools to track engagement, reach, and conversion rates. Understanding these metrics will enable you to make informed decisions, tweak your strategies, and demonstrate the value of your efforts to stakeholders.
-
Understand Your Audience: Dive deep into the demographics and psychographics of your target audience. What do they like? When are they online? Tailor your content to what resonates with them.
-
"Pivot!" Data analysis in social media marketing helps you know when it's time to change direction with your content. When you examine the data from tools like Instagram Insights, you see how your audience interacts with your posts. If the data shows that something isn’t working, it’s your cue to "pivot" your strategy, tweaking your content to better align with what your audience wants, ensuring your marketing efforts don't get stuck like that couch in the stairwell.

This tool here from LinkedIn is giving me support in hearing from other professionals and having space to share my experience.

Way that I'd recommend SMM's stay networked in the community: 1. find those niche Slack and Whatsapp groups, want suggestions? DM me! - Some are industry specific and have subchannels/groups for SMMs, some are dedicated specifically to SMMs. 2. Instagram/TikTok handles of fellow SMM's - Are they promoting that they're a SMM on their Instagram/TikTok? 🟢 They're likely very open to chatting about work on that account. - No past posts or profile description related to them working in social? 🔴 Leave them be! Here's my simple thinking: - Would you more likely respond to a cold Slack or Whatsapp message over a Linkedin message? I am. I'm conditioned to think Slack & Whatsapp is a bit more personal. Same goes with Instagram/TikTok.
-
Some key points to remember (or at least ones that I should remember): 1. High video quality does not equal high-quality video. Some of the best videos are not in 4K or 8K, it's about story and feeling. VHS footage + a good story is better than 4K + a boring narrative. 2. Sound is more important than you realise. Whether it's choosing the right trending sound on TikTok to up your chances of going viral, or capturing the right emotion for the final scene of your short-film, a video is nothing without sound. 3. You'll never make the perfect video/post. There will always be things you could've added or dropped. At some point you just have to say: 'Yes, I'm happy with this and confident it's up to standard.' and release it to the internet.
-
Grasp the Basics of Marketing: Knowing how to market is just as important as knowing the platforms. Understand marketing principles and how they translate to social media—things like A/B testing, customer journeys, and conversion funnels.

Considera la creación de un "simulador de crisis social". Este simulador sería una plataforma en línea donde los usuarios pueden enfrentarse a escenarios de crisis simulados, diseñados para imitar situaciones reales que podrían surgir en las redes sociales.

Always include a call to action for your content - what do you want them to do? Is it subscribe, follow you, buy something? Remember though that a call to action might not always work, especially depending on what you’re sharing. I’ve often found a call to action at the end of a written post doesn’t get as much interaction as a call to action on a video. I think having a human voice speak it helps foster that connection. Whatever way you do it make sure the call to action is clear & as engaging as possible. Also remember that although any post you share might not be going viral, if it’s helped or resonated with a handful of people then it’s still worthwhile.

I was a late starter on social media, reluctant to even put up my LinkedIn profile, did not know what Twitter DM meant, or write anything online until 2008. I would send my articles to academic journals, Letters to the Editor (LTE), Op-Eds to mainstream print newspapers which were just then getting online, and mostly write by hand in the margins of newspaper articles. It took me a few years to get LTEs published in local newspapers and a decade in Washington Post. Once online for Pickens Plan in 2008 talking nationally to people, in 2009 I moved to my own virtual think tank, LinkedIn, and Twitter. By self-publishing, if you have something to say, you can shape the global information space for peaceful citizen engagement and peace.
