In October 2022, BBB contacted Sun Locksmith Jacksonville regarding claims in in advertising and its use of the BBB Accredited Business seal on its website.

Its website states "Serving Florida For Over 85 Years" and "Our Company Was Founded 10 Years Ago…"  Its listing at 
https://www.yelp.com/biz/sun-locksmith-jacksonville-jacksonville-2 states "Established in 2017."  According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the primary responsibility for truthful and non-deceptive advertising rests with the advertiser. Advertisers should be prepared to substantiate any objective claims or offers made before publication or broadcast. Upon request, they should present such substantiation promptly to the advertising medium or BBB. BBB requested that the business clarify and substantiate its business start date and consider modifying these claims in its advertising but did not receive a response.

Several places on its website state that the business and/or its employees are licensed, bonded, insured, and certified; for example, "We are licensed, certified and we have all the proper training and experience to get your job done in a right way for the first time" and "Technicians at Sun Locksmith Jacksonville are licensed, bonded and insured."  BBB requested that the business provide written proof of these claims but did not receive a response.

The business states "It is thought that because of the Sun Locksmith Jacksonville, burglary is coming to a halt." Claims relating to performance, energy savings, safety, efficacy or results for a product or service should be based on recent and competent testing or other objective data. BBB  requested that the business provide substantiation for this claim or consider removing or modifying it, but did not receive a response.

Its website claims "24/7 Emergency Services Best Locksmith Prices Fast Response Time." According to the BBB Code of Advertising, the rapidity with which prices fluctuate and the difficulty of determining prices of all sellers at all times preclude an absolute knowledge of the truth of unqualified underselling/lowest price claims. BBB requested that the business provide proof that it has the lowest prices compared to its competitors or consider modifying this statement, but did not receive a reply.

Its website includes the following 'guarantee' claims:

When using the term guarantee in product advertising, the advertiser must clearly and conspicuously include a statement that the complete details of the guarantee can be seen prior to sale at the advertiser's location, viewed on the advertiser’s website or, in the case of mail or telephone sales, made available free on written request. Advertisers should only use satisfaction guarantee in advertising if the seller refunds the full purchase price of the advertised product or service at the consumer's request. Any material limitations or conditions that apply to the satisfaction guarantee must be clearly and conspicuously disclosed.  BBB asked if the business refunds the full purchase price if a customer is not satisfied and requested that it add the terms of its guarantees to its advertising but did not receive a response.

Its website includes a "Special Discount 15% off" graphic.  A price reduction or sale may be used in advertising only if there is a significant reduction from the advertiser's usual and customary price of the products or services offered and the sale is for a limited period of time. If the sale exceeds thirty days, advertisers should be prepared to substantiate that the offering is indeed a valid price reduction and has not become its regular price.  The business did not respond with information about when  this special discount began or its anticipated ending date or respond to BBB's request that it add the the terms of the discount to its advertising.
