Kind of Blue

Miles said that he had wanted to draw closer to African and Gospel music as well as the blues, but admitted that he had failed in this intention. Nonetheless, he created his most indisputable masterpiece, containing two of the most popular standards of modern jazz, 'So What' and 'All Blues' On 'Flamenco Sketches,' Miles struck out to explore the harmonic realms of modal music, which he would radicalize ten years later. He also borrowed from Bill Evans, the principal creator of this album, the kind of blue that is reflected in 'Blue In Green.' For the last time, Miles called back the pianist who had just left his quintet, and it was Evans’ harmonic conceptions, inspired by early 20th century European music, that dominated Kind Of Blue.Wynton Kelly, the group’s new pianist, only appeared once, on 'Freddie Freeloader,”'and was stung sharply by this affront: the ultimate touch of bright red to heighten the depth of the blue.

Editorial Reviews

Few recordings maintain their power to utterly intoxicate for decades as Kind of Blue does. This 1959 all-time classic is one of the monuments of jazz: So What; Freddie Freeloader; Blue in Green; All Blues, and Flamenco Sketches. This vinyl release is the way to experience one of the greatest albums ever made.

Great Album...

Great Album...
I researched many reviews here, Discogs, ect... to find the greatest vinyl bang for my buck. Saw a bunch of mixed reviews for this version of Kind of Blue. Some said "A lot of surface noise" or "Sounds great" or the Stereo version "adds more space/depth" or "misses the mark" or "Bad sibilance in spots" ect... The only recent repress, with majority of praise is the 2x LP 45rpm MoFi or the UHQR, if you wish to pay the price of admission. My first copy had a center warp, not horrible but..., was dirty with black vinyl dust (cleaned), 1st play through pop click pop (cleaned again), 2nd play click pop click, and I returned.Second copy is perfectly flat, very little surface noise, the stereo has a nice separation (could be partially due my speaker locations/direction) opening up the sound stage, the bass sounds warm (considering the source but could also be my sub rounding out the lower frequencies), and I am very pleased with my copy. To me it sounds good (all that matters), without having to spend the exorbitant prices of late.
