After you get your Google TV device, you'll need to set it up.
What you need
Important: Some features, services, and apps might not be available in all areas. Additional terms, conditions, or charges may apply.
- The Google TV app. On your device, download the Google TV app.
- A mobile phone or tablet with the latest version of the Google Home app on Android or iOS (recommended).
- It must support a 5 GHz connection to set up Google TV Streamer on a 5 GHz connection.
- A WPA2-Enterprise network isn't supported.
- It must support a 5 GHz connection to set up Google TV Streamer on a 5 GHz connection.
- The Google Home app on your phone.
- A Wi-Fi or Ethernet connection.
- A Google Account.
- A device with Google TV, like a Chromecast or Google TV Streamer.
Get started with setup
- Turn on your Google TV device.
- To turn on TalkBack during setup, on your remote, press and hold the Back and Down buttons at the same time for 3 seconds. If that doesn’t work, check with your device manufacturer.
- Choose a language and your region.
- Choose Set up Google TV.
Tip: If you choose Set up basic TV, you can’t use some features. Learn more about basic TV.
If you use Google TV Streamer
Note: Use the directional pad (D-pad) on the remote to navigate and select.
- Plug your Google TV Streamer into an available HDMI port on your TV or other display device switch your TV to the HDMI input your Google TV Streamer is plugged into.
- Plug one end of the power adapter cable into your Google TV Streamer and the other end into the included power adapter. Plug the power adapter into an open outlet.
- If desired, connect your Google TV Streamer to an Ethernet network.
- Wait for the remote to pair. In most cases, the remote pairs automatically. However, if the TV screen shows "Start pairing," press and hold the Back and Home buttons on the remote until the light on the remote starts to pulse.

- Select the language you want to use.
- Select the region you’re in.
Finish setup with the Home app
- On your phone, open Google Home .
- At the top left, tap Add Set up device Set up new devices in your home.
- Choose or add a home.
- Tap Scan code and allow the app to use your phone's camera.
- Scan the QR code on your TV screen.
- Tip: It may take a few minutes for your phone and TV to connect.
- Follow the instructions in the Home app and on your TV screen.
- When the TV screen shows instructions to set up with the Google Home app, open the Home app on your phone.
- If you've never used the Google Home app before, tap Get started enter the Google Account you want to use with Google TV Streamer.
- Tap Devices Add Google Nest or partner device .
- “Choose a home” or “Add another home." Tap Next.
- “Looking for devices…” will appear. If the Google TV Streamer is plugged in, “Google TV Streamer found” will show on the phone screen.
- Answer “Yes” when asked if you want to set up Google TV Streamer.
- Scan the QR code on your TV.
- Wait for the connection process to finish.
- Scroll down to read the Terms of Service and Google Privacy Policy. Tap Accept.
- Choose which room the TV is in. Tap Next.
- Select the Wi-Fi network. This should be the same one the Google TV Streamer is connected to. Enter the network password when prompted. Tap Next.
- “Sign in with your Google Account.” Tap Continue. Perform 2-step verification if prompted.
- Follow the steps on how to Set up & use Google Assistant on your TV until you reach "Setup here is finished," then continue with the TV and remote.
Fix problems with set up
You might need to set up your Google TV with your remote if:
- You get stuck when you set up with the Home app
- You can't update the Home app
- Your device doesn't appear in the Home app
Try setup with your remote instead
- On your remote, hold the Back button.
- When "Having trouble?" appears on your TV screen, choose Set up with remote.
- Choose a Wi-Fi network and enter the password.
- Sign in to your Google Account.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
