Who knew cleaning could be so messy? With a plot to murder her in the Season 3 finale successfully accomplished, fans are left wondering why Nadia Morales left The Cleaning Lady and what happened to Eva De Dominici’s character. Nadia Morales, who was played by Eva De Dominici since Season 1, died in The Cleaning Lady Season 3 finale, “House of Cards,” after she was fatally stabbed by Ramona Sanchez (played by Kate del Castillo) — the aunt of Nadia’s late husband Arman Morales — after she learned that Nadia was still alive and faked her own death in the episode prior. In the end, Ramona — the cartel’s leader who wanted Nadia dead for what she knew — was arrested by the FBI thanks to the knife linking her to Nadia’s murder.
As for why Nadia was killed off in The Cleaning Lady, Elodie Yung, who plays Thony De La Rosa, hinted to Deadline after the Season 3 finale that Nadia’s death could serve as the catalyst for even more drama between Thony and Ramona in Season 4. “I absolutely loved working with Kate. She’s just the best. I know everyone has been very excited by her character. I wouldn’t be surprised that they would bring her back. I would love for it to be the case. It’s just been great,” Yung said. “She’s huge in Mexico as well. She’s just so down to earth and humble. The way she approaches her work is just, I don’t know, it’s very supportive of others and humble. She enjoys playing, I think, this type of character…She’s very impressive, and she’s got this stature and this aura about her. Throughout this season, we see the cracks, and we see the vulnerability.”
Yung also hinted at how Thony will be up to her same tricks in Season 4. “I think there’s a pattern with Thony there. She always fights her way out of tricky situations…working with the mob, working with the cartel. She puts the needs of her son and of her family and the people she loves [before herself],” she said. “Finding Arman was one of the main things for her this season, but it just feels that she’s kind of always sucked back in. So I really can’t tell you what they have in store for me in Season 4.”
She continued, “I can’t wait to see which direction we’re gonna go with Thony next season. But so far, I think the show has been built in a way that she really wants to do her best, and she wants to make the right decisions, but she is making mistakes. She’s very human, which I love, by the way, about this character. There’s nothing perfect about Thony. So I really don’t know. I can’t tell you where it’s going to head. But I’m sure they’ll have interesting things for us in Season 4.”
The Cleaning Lady previously sparked speculation that Nadia was leaving the series in Season 3, Episode 10, “Smoke and Mirrors,” which saw Thony and Ramona seemingly plot Nadia’s murder for her alleged involvement with the FBI. “She lied to all of us all. Nadia cut a deal with the Feds. Her life ends today,” Ramona says in the episode.
Thony seemingly agreed, telling Ramona that she’d kill Nadia herself and make it look like an overdose. “She’s a threat to my family as well. I’ll take care of her myself. I’ll make it look like an overdose,” Thony says. In actuality, Thony was lying to Ramona as part her plan to help Nadia fake her death to free her from the cartel.
Yung hinted at Thony’s plan to take down Ramona in an interview with TV Insider in May 2, 2024. Thony wanted to take down Ramona due to her belief that she was a part of Arman’s kidnapping that led to his death in Season 3. (Adan Canto, who played Arman on The Cleaning Lady, also died in January 2024. He was 42 years old). “There’s this theme of revenge that we have in the second half [of Season 3] because of the loss Thony’s going through. Because she knows that Ramona has something to do with it, she wants to take her down,” Yung said.
Yung also hinted at Thony and Nadia’s improved relationship throughout The Cleaning Lady Season 3 to TV Insider, which is more evidence of the duo’s team-up. “These are two women who fought in the past and definitely are not best friends, but they both shared the love for the same man. They both loved and love Arman, so in a very extreme and strange way, they’re all going to get closer, for sure,” she said.
The Cleaning Lady — FOX’s drama series following Thony De La Rosa, a former surgeon-turned-cleaner who witnesses a murder — was renewed for a fourth season in May 12, 2024, two days before its Season 3 finale.
