Slow, silly, jagged, unsatisfying. The movie is watchable if there's nothing else to watch but really, has no entertainment value. Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling have no chemistry and it appears Russell Crowe took a vacation when he acted in this production. Angourie Rice (the teenager) plays a ridiculous role and is a poor role model. Frankly, the movie was a waste of money. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone and especially not Russell Crowe fans. You'll be disappointed.

There were about 2 to 3 jokes that weren't forced to the point of being cringy. The rest were utterly unfunny or just dumb. Ryan and Russel didn't really have any chemistry in their scenes together. Ryan tried too hard to be the comic relief and Russel seemed wooden at times trying to be the straight man. Overall, not even a meh movie. Don't waste your time.

Didn't hold my interest at all. I had high hopes. It seemed like a slapsticky Coen-ish evening of basking in Gosling's charm and Crowe's gruff humor. I turned it off after about 30 minutes. No wit, no charm - just a bunch of tired gags and mediocre writing. I read AO Scott's review and was ready to disagree. Nope. He wasn't hard enough on it.
