NAMED A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR BY THE WASHINGTON POST

As rising waters—and an encroaching police state—endanger her life and family, a girl with the gifts of a "carrier" travels through water and time to rescue vulnerable figures from the margins of history

Lidia Yuknavitch has an unmatched gift for capturing stories of people on the margins—vulnerable humans leading lives of challenge and transcendence. Now, Yuknavitch offers an imaginative masterpiece: the story of Laisvė, a motherless girl from the late 21st century who is learning her power as a carrier, a person who can harness the power of meaningful objects to carry her through time. Sifting through the detritus of a fallen city known as the Brook, she discovers a talisman that will mysteriously connect her with a series of characters from the past two centuries: a French sculptor; a woman of the American underworld; a dictator's daughter; an accused murderer; and a squad of laborers at work on a national monument. Through intricately braided storylines, Laisvė must dodge enforcement raids and find her way to the present day, and then, finally, to the early days of her imperfect country, to forge a connection that might save their lives—and their shared dream of freedom.

A dazzling novel of body, spirit, and survival, Thrust will leave no reader unchanged.

This iis my favorite of Yuknovich's books. hHr writing is always beutiful,,at least in her books that I've read (Dora: a Head Cse,Small Backs of Children, Verge storie:s and Reel to Reel.). This is her most compelling novel IMO and the most page-turny of all the page turners by anyone in recent memory...rarely does a book make a great gift but Thrust is highly giftable for fans of powerfull fiction, relavemt to our culture and countercultures..and there is wisdom and time travel on this novel which is an amazing book for reaing ttday then give it to a friend- I don't know Lidia Y except through her writing..and I have met her, but anyone reading this, stop reading my review and get a copy for yourself or if you have a college student who needs inspiration during breaks from study, Thrust delivers., Whether bought for the enrapturing poetic flow that Yuknoviche's fans admire or for anyone who needs a good story or loves turtles, this book is 4u, published by Penguin (I <3 🐧🐧🐧 books

Imagine Mother Nature taking shape of a little girl, and this little girl is able to travel through time by use of water. This is a story about slavery, immigration, poverty, love, family, friendship, history, imagination, and how humans destroyed the planet with greed. And how a little girl is able to travel time to share stories that will change those who she comes into contact with. It's these stories that will help save the planet and humankind.
