HUGO AWARD FINALIST • ONE OF THE YEAR’S BEST BOOKS: Bill Gates, GatesNotes, New York Public Library, Parade, Newsweek, Polygon, Shelf Awareness, She Reads, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal • “An epic story of redemption, discovery and cool speculative sci-fi.”—USA Today

“If you loved The Martian, you’ll go crazy for Weir’s latest.”—The Washington Post

Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission—and if he fails, humanity and the earth itself will perish.

Except that right now, he doesn’t know that. He can’t even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it.

All he knows is that he’s been asleep for a very, very long time. And he’s just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

His crewmates dead, his memories fuzzily returning, Ryland realizes that an impossible task now confronts him. Hurtling through space on this tiny ship, it’s up to him to puzzle out an impossible scientific mystery—and conquer an extinction-level threat to our species.

And with the clock ticking down and the nearest human being light-years away, he’s got to do it all alone.

Or does he?

An irresistible interstellar adventure as only Andy Weir could deliver, Project Hail Mary is a tale of discovery, speculation, and survival to rival The Martian—while taking us to places it never dreamed of going.

Another great book by Andy Weir! I love the whole premise, all the science, and the personality infused into the story. I highly recommend this book. I absolutely loved The Martian and this book was great as well. Going to start on Artemis tomorrow...I hope he has more books in the works...maybe Project Hail Mary II?

Hard Sci Fi with Andy Weir’s typical event driven crisis and humor - slightly softened from his prior two books. A wonderful plot with a lot of creative thinking not just about the primary crisis but the twists that ensue. A few twists are predictable (especially to those with technical experience— the issue when the lights go off was easy to predict for anyone who operates sensitive equipment that face potential contaminates ) but no less enjoyable. The reader can, if they wish, participate in working out the solutions along with the protagonist. Weir is gradually adding depth to his characters and writing as his writing continues to develop without losing the pace or rollercoaster excitement.

This is a great progression for Andy Weir. I was a huge fan of the Martian (who wasn't...), But Artemis lacked in character depth, even though I didn't mind the overall story setting. In this third book, we have a really imaginative concept that still hangs on to the 'hard sci-fi' genre that made the Martian so great, but takes it to the next level. It makes some huge leaps of logic, but they are made for good reason and disbelief is well suspended. I think this book represents Weir's best character arc so far. My only criticism is in some cases, there is more technical detail that I felt I needed, as it got in the way of plot points that were obviously going to happen, and I didn't feel I always needed to know 'how' they happened. But, this is a minor quibble. The big picture is unique and imaginative, with a story that wraps up in a satisfying and (mostly) surpring way.
