Why Tori Spelling Turned Down 'The' 'Masked Singer' Three Times Before Finally Saying Yes

Tori Spelling had reservations about agreeing to appear on The Masked Singer, but her five children were responsible for changing her mind

Tori Spelling had to confront one of her biggest fears when she said yes to appearing on The Masked Singer — which is why she initially turned the singing competition down.

“I honestly said no three times,” the star, who was unveiled as the celebrity behind the show’s unicorn, told Entertainment Tonight. So why did she change her mind? It had to do with her five young children.

“I was like, ‘OK, why am I saying no? It’s two of my biggest fears: performing and singing. I’m saying no immediately.’ Yet I’m raising five children who I’m telling them, ‘You can be anything you want to be. You can do anything!’ And here I am already just shutting things down,” said the actress, 45. “So I’m just like, ‘OK, I guess I have to do this!”

Spelling and husband Dean McDermott share kids Liam, 11, Stella, 10, Hattie, 7, Finn, 6, and Beau, 1.

During this week’s episode of the popular Fox competition series, Spelling was eliminated after performing “I Love It” by Icona Pop.

After being unmasked, Spelling, who hosted a unicorn-themed birthday for her daughter Stella in July 2017, opened up about the “life changing experience” on social media.

“I have 5 unicorn babies that I just showed that facing your biggest fears can sometimes lead to the ultimate state of empowerment!” she wrote alongside a series of behind-the-scenes images — including one of the star taking a selfie while in costume.

“Liam, Stella, Hattie, Finn, and Beau you can be anything you want to be! I did this all for you and gained my sparkle back thru the process,” she continued. “Thank you @maskedsingerfox for one of the best experiences of my life!”

Spelling’s husband also congratulated his wife for overcoming her fears — and kicking “some a–” in the process.

“So proud of my Unicorn @torispelling,” he gushed. “She overcame her fears of singing and live performances and kicked some a– on the @maskedsingerfox.”

The Masked Singer, hosted by Nick Cannon, airs Wednesdays (9 p.m. ET) on Fox.
