My Grandmother Solely Wore This Comfy Sneaker Brand for Decades — and I'm Following in Her Footsteps

If there’s one piece of invaluable life advice my grandmother instilled in me, it’s the importance of a good pair of shoes. And not just any shoes — a reliable pair of sneakers.

My grandmother lived in New York City for 70+ years, so she spent a lot of time walking. And if you saw her outside, she usually had a black crossbody bag slung across her and a pair of leather Reebok sneakers in either black or white. For more than 30 years, she wore only Reebok shoes, and over the last decade, these are the sneakers I often have in my go-to footwear rotation.

Reebok Classic Harman Run Sneaker, starting at $34

My favorite Reebok shoe is hands-down the Classic Harman Run Sneaker. Simply put, these sneakers are mega-comfortable. They have an EVA midsole, which is supportive, and each step feels like I’m walking on little pillows. I’ve worn them on multiple long walks in parks and cities, and they’ve held up, never once causing me any foot pain. (And as someone with extremely flat feet, sneakers that don’t hurt after a few hours are hard to come by.)

The shoes, which Meghan Markle once wore, have earned more than 9,000 five-star ratings from Amazon shoppers who call them “perfect” for everyday wear and “versatile” in their reviews. They’re available in 19 color combinations as well, including red and shades of rose dust, and they’re going for as little as $34. 

The sneakers are made with a synthetic upper, so if you’re more of a leather upper fan, as my grandmother was, Amazon also offers the Reebok Classic, which is similar in style. 

Reebok Club C 85 Vintage Walking Shoe, starting at $54

For more of a throwback feel, check out the Reebok Club C 85 Vintage Walking Shoes. These sneakers have an EVA midsole and a padded lining, so they provide even more cushion and support. The low-cut silhouette has a retro Reebok logo in a little window on the side for a touch of color. Amazon shoppers have granted them more than 5,000 perfect ratings, with many highlighting the shoes’ “sturdy quality.” 

“I have had these for several years now, and wear them several times a week. They have had no signs of damage and are easy to clean,” one reviewer, who is a teacher, shared. “[I] would definitely rank these as shoes I can tolerate while standing on my feet all day.” They finished off by calling out how the sneakers “look so good” with various outfits.

Shoes that hold up over time are forever a wardrobe staple. My grandmother favored Reeboks, and for good reason — they have clean, simple designs, so they can be worn with just about anything, and they’re meant for walking. 

It’s a brand I return to each year when I decide to treat myself to a new pair of sneakers, and clearly, Amazon shoppers are impressed, too.
