Jon Hamm is sharing all of Fargo's behind-the-scenes secrets!

During a recent panel for the FX series' fifth season, the actor, 52, revealed what it took to make the prosthetic pierced nipples he wore for the role of North Dakota Sheriff Roy Tillman.

"I had to have some very blue latex put on my nipples, and then they cast a resoundingly lifelike pair of nipples, which they then pierced and placed over my own nipples, and we shot said nipples. The crew doesn’t get enough credit, but there was a dedicated nippleologist," he said at the event, according to Variety.

A synopsis on FX's website describes Hamm's character as "one of those constitutional sheriffs, a rancher preacher, defender of the American gospel."

The summary also shared that the character is "a man who works from sunup to sundown shepherding God’s land" and that it is someone who believes "he is the law and therefore is above the law." Hamm stars opposite Juno Temple, who plays housewife Dorothy “Dot” Lyon.

Hamm said he was fully onboard with wearing the accessory due to showrunner Noah Hawley's vision for his character.

“Noah had a pretty great sense of who this character was, and I was on board with going on that journey with him. It was fun," he said at the panel, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Apart from being busy working on the show, Hamm tied the knot with Anna Osceola in June. The ceremony came a few months after PEOPLE confirmed that the Mad Men alums got engaged after two years of dating.

The pair reportedly first met on the set of the hit AMC series in 2015 before being spotted together on several occasions and romantically linked in 2020.

In a conversation with PEOPLE, the actor reflected on being in a relationship with someone in the same industry.

"You're in it, it's your life, and so you wake up and you deal with what comes at you. That's certainly the case with us. The funny thing about this career is that there's no rule book," he said. "You really have to lean on one another for their support and for any kind of advice."

He also looked back at how they cemented their relationship status.

"I think when you're figuring out relationships, there's a reason that that's a genre unto itself in television and film. It's a bumpy road towards relationships, but we do get better at it, I suppose," Hamm shared with PEOPLE. "I mean, I feel like I've figured out some things over the course of my half a century on the planet. So I'm in a pretty good place now. Hopefully, I'm learning."
