After Victoria Monét won over the country star in the best new artist category at the 2024 Grammy Awards on Sunday, he took to X (formerly Twitter) the following day to express admiration for the "On My Mama" singer's music and career journey. "Just so we are clear- Victoria Monèt deserved that award," wrote Jelly Roll, 39. "She is incredible. She has been writing hits for everyone else for a long time, and she deserves every bit of this award." "We come back next year stronger [with] more nominations," he added. "I’m inspired." And I like to liken myself to a plant who was planted and you can look at the music industry as soil and it can look to be looked at as dirty or can be looked at as a source of nutrients and water," said Monét, 34. "And my roots have been growing underneath ground unseen for so long. And I feel like today I'm sprouting finally above ground." Victoria Monét. She got her start writing for stars like Ariana Grande, Kendrick Lamar, Kanye West and Fifth Harmony, and recalled waiting for the right moment to "pounce" in her acceptance speech. "I correlated the music industry to the jungle," Monét said. "The jungle is a jaguar’s environment, but it’s not always the first thing you see. I felt that way about being behind the scenes in music. It took a lot of time, but I was happy to do it." At the 2024 Grammys, Jelly Roll was also nominated in the best country duo/group performance category for his song "Save Me" with Lainey Wilson. The award ultimately went to "I Remember Everything" by Zach Bryan featuring Kacey Musgraves.
