Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright reunited to celebrate their son's birthday amid their ongoing split — but the dinosaur-themed party didn't quite go off without a hitch.

On Saturday, April 13, the reality stars got together to celebrate their son Cruz Cauchi's 3rd "3-Rex"-themed birthday. All seemed to go well, until the cake cutting. TheirThe Valley co-star Zack Wickham captured video of a rather tragic birthday casualty.

In a video shared to Wickham's Instagram and TikTok accounts on April 14, Taylor, 44, can be seen helping Cruz blow out his candles as Cartwright, 35, holds the toddler above a table. Seconds later, the folding table collapses and the three-tiered white and blue cake with Cruz's name written across it can be seen tumbling to the ground.

In the clip, Wickham claps his hand over his mouth, and most of the other party guests can also be heard reacting, while Taylor and Cartwright can do nothing but look at each other in disbelief and laughter. The Valley star also poked some fun at the moment by editing in a meteor to the video that descends upon the cake.

Cruz officially turned 3 on April 12, and per Taylor's Instagram Stories, Cruz enjoyed "all his favorite things" on his actual birthday, including a lunch of chicken fingers and French fries and a trip to the Aquarium of the Pacific in Long Beach, Calif.

Both Cartwright and Taylor shared sweet birthday tributes to Cruz on Instagram. Cartwright posted a carousel of images of her son and wrote a heartfelt birthday message.

"Happy Birthday to my sweet sweet beautiful boy! I can’t believe you are 3 years old today, oh how time flies!" her caption read. "I am so blessed to be this amazing little boy's mother he makes me so proud every single day. Mommy loves you sooo sooo much my Cruzy!! 🥹❤️."

"Happiest of birthdays to my special little man, mommy and daddy love you so much and we are so proud of you," Taylor shared in his own tribute.

"You are the best thing to happen to both of us and we love watching you grow every day. I am beyond blessed to be your dad you are the kindest, happiest little boy on the planet you amaze me every day," he added.

The former Vanderpump Rules stars first announced their separation on Taylor’s podcast, When Reality Hits, in February. They revealed they had been having issues for nearly a year. The couple are also currently appearing together on the first season of Bravo's The Valley, which was filmed before their breakup.

“Marriages in general are very hard, and I've had a particularly rough year this past year,” Cartwright said on the podcast. “Jax and I are taking time apart, and I made the decision to move into another home to take some space for the sake of my mental health.”

Cartwright said she didn’t know “what the future holds,”

At the premiere of The Valley in March, Cartwright told PEOPLE in an exclusive interview that she was focusing on Cruz first and foremost amid their split.

“At this point, Cruz is the most important thing, he’s all that matters,” she said. “Other than that, like, I'm just trying to have fun and be happy right now for once.”
