Lifestyle Home Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar Sell $1.5 Million Arkansas House They Bought for $230,000 The TLC stars have been buying and selling homes as a business since before they were on reality TV By Madison Roberts Madison Roberts Madison Roberts is a former writer at PEOPLE. She left PEOPLE IN 2023. People Editorial Guidelines Published on March 13, 2020 07:54PM EDT Jim Bob and Michelle Duggar have made a major profit after selling a home in Arkansas. The 19 Kids and Counting stars tackled the renovation of a dated 10,000-square-foot home known as the Baylor Mansion, in the town of Springdale in 2014 for $230,000, according to Realtor.com. Now, the completely transformed four-bedroom, nine-bathroom (five full and four half) abode has sold for $1.53 million, PEOPLE can confirm, meaning the couple made a profit of 1,300,000, less the cost of the renovation. PEOPLE reported that the home was first put on the market in May 2019 for $1.8 million, listed by April Hamm with Keller Williams Market Pro Realty. The price was then lowered to $1.1 million within six months. In December 2019, Jason McClure and Tom Joseph of Weichert Realtors, The Griffin Company took over the listing, and Jim Bob and Michelle decided to bring in interior designers to furnish the space. The house then went back on the market for $1.38 million with furnishings, and sold in mid-February for over asking. The sale included an additional plot of land next door. For years, they turned flipping homes into family projects. Brett Ralston Brett Ralston "They've always looked for opportunities where they could improve something," the representative said. "They just like flipping houses. They like the construction business, the remodel, and seeing something go from bad to good — from unused to being attractive for others." Brett Ralston Brett Ralston Built in 1969, the home was said to have been inspired by Frank Lloyd Wright's iconic round house, according to the original listing. The first floor is round with a concrete wall around it, and was "supposedly built to withstand a nuclear attack." Brett Ralston Brett Ralston While they kept some of the house's original features — like slate tile floors and walnut ceilings and doors — the space has been largely updated. It appears the Duggars may have also added additional bathrooms, as the original 2014 listing said the home featured only four. Brett Ralston Brett Ralston Now, the abode boasts many more modern elements, like sleek white cabinets and streamlined fixtures in the spacious kitchen, and an open floor plan that expands to the living room with a fireplace and stone accent walls. Brett Ralston Brett Ralston The home also features three additional kitchens, all of which have been renovated with granite countertops and updated appliances. One of the home's additional kitchens sits at the bottom of a winding staircase. Upstairs, the sprawling master suite is outfitted with a new freestanding soaking tub and a separate walk-in shower. The home also boasts a screening room and an elevator. One of its more unusual elements is a secure room designed to store guns. Previously, the patio featured a green outdoor carpet, which the Duggars ripped up for a bare outdoor space.
