Photo: AP Photo/Mark Schiefelbein) The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore collapsed after the Dali cargo ship rammed into it early Tuesday morning. The collapse, which took place around 1:30 a.m. local time, was initially described as a "mass casualty event." In a subsequent update on Tuesday morning, officials said two people were rescued and six others remained unaccounted for. By the end of the day, U.S. Coast Guard Rear Admiral Shannon N. Gilreath said at a press conference that the six missing individuals were presumed dead. "I'd like to announce tonight that based on the length of time that we've gone on this search, the extensive search efforts that we've put into it, the water temperature, at this point, we do not believe that we're going to find any of these individuals still alive," said Gilreath. Gilreath went on emphasize that the U.S. Coast Guard is "not going away," but that they're "just going to transition to a different phase." Col. Roland L. Butler Jr., Maryland State Police secretary, added that their mission has turned into a "recovery operation." As the search remains ongoing, information is slowly coming in about the identities of the victims. Nonprofit organization CASA reported that father of three Miguel Luna, who is from El Salvador, but has lived in Maryland for over 19 years, was among six people still missing. Another victim has been identified as Maynor Yassir Suazo Sandoval, a father of two from Honduras, per CNN. Sandoval's brother told the outlet his sibling had been living in the U.S. for 18 years and is a father to an 18-year-old son and a daughter, 5. Jesus Campos says that he was an acquaintance with the six individuals and called them "good people." He says that he learned that the six individuals “were on the bridge when it fell” and were still in the water when he arrived at work Tuesday morning. With vessel traffic in and out of the port now suspended until further notice, the three cruise lines that travel in and out of Baltimore have responded.
