Android Auto to Flag Apps That Can Only Be Used While You're Parked

Android Auto will now let you know which of your apps will only work when your car is parked.

Previously, if you tried to open an app that could only be used while parked you’d get an error message; however, you couldn’t tell from the home screen that was going to happen.

With the most recent version of Android Auto, those apps are designated with a small P icon on the bottom right of their app icon. First spotted by SmartDroid, it will show up on things like gaming and video streaming apps that are available primarily for electric car owners to use while charging their vehicles.

Along with the icons, version 11.4 of Android Auto also brings message summaries to everyone. The feature will paraphrase any text messages you receive that are over 40 words using AI and read them to you while you drive rather than whatever novel your friend or colleague sends you. Messages under that 40-word threshold will still be read aloud in their entirety.

The summary is created by AI, so your mileage may vary in terms of its accuracy. If you’d rather hear those long messages read aloud you can also opt to turn the feature off through your Android Auto settings
