When there’s an issue affecting the CMS, the Mass.gov team does its best to communicate those issues with authors and editors as soon as possible.

These messages are delivered through a variety of channels both outside and inside the CMS. In the CMS, these show up in the Updates box on the author landing page and a new alert banner that displays on all edit.mass.gov pages.

The Updates box shows a brief summary of the issue and a link to further information on the CMS status updates page in the Mass.gov Knowledge Base. The alert banner displays a single-sentence overview of the issue with a link to more information.

The Updates box features a key for the 3 symbols used as part of the CMS status updates:

• Service disruptions are the most serious types of issues and will be communicated via email in addition to these CMS status updates. These messages will be displayed in the alert banner and Updates box.
• Informational messages will include updates to ongoing service disruptions, minor issues that shouldn't cause major disruption for users, or note upcoming changes like scheduled maintenance to the Analytics Dashboards (Beta). These messages will generally display in just the Updates box.
• Service operating normally indicates that the issue has been resolved. These messages will display wherever the original notification was displayed.
